Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 02, 2009 9:21 pm hey there, i have another question for those with flat doors in their kitchens, they all always look stunning, but how many are in gloss and how many are in vinyl wrap?
i dont want to go gloss because of my three young children...cleaning and scratching side of things, but wondered if anyone had used vinyl wrap and still had an ultra coolish modernish looking kitchen? LOL...did that make sense? Re: doors for your kitchen 2Jan 02, 2009 11:31 pm Vinyl Wrap is available in Gloss, Matt or Satin/Textured
You can get Vinyl Wrap in Matt or Satin/Textured if your not fond of Gloss. You still get the sleek look, just with a different finish. Re: doors for your kitchen 4Jan 03, 2009 7:02 am Our kitchen is looking pretty modern. I don't know if it is 'cool' enough for you but we used Designer White by Wilsonart. I think the Wilsonart range is a little more unique and some of the finishes are fantastic.
We also have young children and with a glossy benchtop, I didn't want to have to also clean glossy cupboards. I actually think that the door handles or lack of them and using drawers instead of cupboards creates the contemporary look more than the finish. (Although if you can do the lot, go for it!) Re: doors for your kitchen 5Jan 03, 2009 7:50 am I personally wouldn't have vinyl wrap. I've heard too many stories about it peeling. And I've seen it in display homes as well.
If you're worried about your children scratching things, they'll do more damage to vinyl wrap than laminate. I think good old laminate, in whatever finish, is the best option for kitchen cupboards. And it's the cheapest! Here's a pic of a pretty cool kitchen.... and it's finished in good old boring laminate in standard finish. Terrence Malick Re: doors for your kitchen 6Jan 03, 2009 8:47 am I have no experience in other materials than laminate but with 3 small children I would suggest not to go dark in colour if you go for laminate, absolutely everything shows, and the fingers don't need to be dirty to leave a mark (although if they are, they'll be a pain to clean - not just a bit of water). Re: doors for your kitchen 7Jan 03, 2009 11:20 am oh Joles I really love that kitchen. If i'd seen that before we'd had our prestart I'm might have stuck with the s/s kickboard and had s/s look handles we were originally going with. I only changed them when our benchtop stone was changed. Looks good with the s/s fridge and oven( microwave?)
We are now having black benches and a darkish grey/green/bronze stone top with black nickel handles, black tiling and s/s appliances. Hmm I think the handles and kickboards look great in that photo. what a look! Re: doors for your kitchen 8Jan 03, 2009 10:47 pm thanks for your replies, i think i am even more confused LOL
Paddy, i love your kitchen andthink it is very cool, is the designer whiteby wilsonart vinyl wrap or laminate? I love the kitchen you posted joles, and i love those door handles, we actually have a fridge like that going in and i think those handles would be the icing on the cake...mmmmm cake...LOL Now when u say laminate, does laminate and melamime basically mean the same thing and does the impact resistant version look funny? sorry i know it's a lot of questions, i do havemy cabinet maker coming around next week to talk about these things but it's bugging me and i want to have more of an idea when he comes around....thanks Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
