Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 02, 2009 4:31 pm Hi
Here is a link to a couple of photographs of our nearly finished kitchen. I need help with bar stools though. We have just a narrow space between the bench and the doors to the deck to put a couple of bar stools. I like the idea of a red (darker tones) or even something a bit out there like a clear perspex. Anyone got any good ideas? We live in Brisbane and I'd like to see before I buy if possible. (That puts a dampener on the creativity!) http://www4.snapfish.com.au/thumbnailsh ... _109198489 Re: Ideas for bar stools 4Jan 02, 2009 8:09 pm Nice kitchen!
I can’t help you up there in Brissy. Maybe Maleena could, but she hasn’t been in for a while. Have you looked at places like Freedom? This has been a work in progress for MONTHS. I have looked at Freedom but will look again. We found fantastic stools just today at Myer. I bought one home to try but it has a round base and can't really be pushed in under the bench when not in use. Whatever we get will have to slide under, probably need something with 4 legs that aren't too wide as the space really isn't very wide or deep.
I really like the ghost stools (perspex) from Space but my husband thinks they are ugly. Any ideas would be welcome. Re: Ideas for bar stools 6Jan 02, 2009 8:37 pm I noticed the space is tight.
I found that a problem in my kitchen for bar stools as well. I bought some from freedom, they look good but their legs stick out too much. When I rush to get the phone and the stools aren’t pushed in properly I trip on the legs. This is a tough one, you may need a certain design but will you find it? This is what annoys me about the latest trends, they look good, but do they work? I have found bar stools quite frustrating, it seems everyone needs a different type for their own use, and most of the time none are available. Sorry can't help with the bar stools, but just wanted to say the Pure Mineralstone looks great! Squareform edge looks good too, nice one Is that mushroom linea on the back of the breakfast bar, looks good too. Re: Ideas for bar stools 8Jan 02, 2009 9:19 pm Yes, you have picked the colours. Diamond Gloss Pure Mineralstone benches 5x5 edges, mushroom linea on the breakfast bar and on the bottom of the glass cabinet and Designer White drawers and cupboards. I'd love to add a splash of red as there is a little box on the shelves in the corner you can't see and it looks great. I also have a wall I want to wallpaper near by, I will post pics sometime after barstool problem solved and see if anyone has some good ideas. The kitchen is very neutral so some bold design or colour is needed nearby to keep me happy.
Great site you found by the way Michelle. There are a few stools there I quite liked. I'll keep you posted. Re: Ideas for bar stools 14Jan 03, 2009 10:01 am Hi SuH
The one we have brought home to try is like the wave seat you have in your second post. It looks fantastic, but the swivel part of the chair doesn't work in the small space. I think we will have to go for 4 vertical legs and a low back or no back chair that can be pushed under the bench when not in use. The round base is too heavy to push under. So frustrating. I love the look but I made a promise to myself to be practical over pretty. Re: Ideas for bar stools 15Jan 03, 2009 10:35 am I think the area may just be too small to have stools there... I think it will make the kitchen look cluttered and when people are sitting there it looks like you wont be able to get past.
This is just my opinion and I really hope you find something suitable. ps Your kitchen is gorgeous and fresh looking. We are having the pure mineralstone on our bathroom vanity top.. looks great! -Sha Re: Ideas for bar stools 16Jan 03, 2009 6:53 pm Paddy,
sorry to crash your post - I don't have any ideas for you but I was wondering what sort of glass doors you used in your kitchen and how pricey they were? They look great!
