Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 30, 2008 7:29 pm hi there, i am new to this forum after finding it just a few days ago and i am in love with it already!!
We are getting our kitchen rennovated soon, and have quite a small kitchen. I have had a few quotes and the cabinet maker we have chosen to go with uses duraform doors, and suggested vinyl wrap. We have the choice of profile or no profie and are not sure what is better for a small kitchen, but are choosing between oblique, diamond or baron- would love suggestions on these? because our kitchen is small we were reccomended white for our cupboards to help lighten it up...so i am guessing designer white is the go. We have beech coloured floating floorboards and are painting our wall in the kitchen warm neutral 1/2 strength by dulux ( sorry couldn't find colour selection to show ), and doing a feature wall in our lounge and dining with braid by dulux. Should we consider a few dark wenge doors above our rangehood ? all our appliances are SS. I am unsure what colour benchtops to go, and also what colour tiles, though i had considered doing a lot of small diff chocolate shaded tiles going in a row down one corner with white tiles all around...but then i still am not sure...ohhhhh the decisions LOL Please help!!!! i seriously need it LOL Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: my kitchen...help needed please 3Dec 30, 2008 7:55 pm toni my appologies...i don't know how to make them smaller There fine Toni, I’ve seen bigger than that! One thing I have noticed with the layout. The bottom of the microwave should not be more than 450mm above the bench top, to bring the middle of the microwave door to eyelevel It appears that all the bottoms of all the overheads (including the microwave cradle) are level, this would mean that the cupboards next to stove tops are also 450 of off the bench top. The minimum distance from hotplates (especially gas) to underside of overhead cupboards is 600mm. (I believe this is a legal requirement) If the space between the hotplates and the underside of the overheads are less than 600mm then :- 1) Heat from hotplates will damage (melt) the bottom edges of the doors and panels. 2) The overhead cupboards could catch alite 3)An insurance claim as a result of a fire might get knocked back The rest of the layout looks good. I know its only a picture. but dont get sucked into having one of those artificial stone type sinks... Thanks kevin, i will certainly look into the measurements and make sure things are as they should be, last thing i need is something that isnt right. I will call my cabinet maker on the 2nd to check, thanks LOL ed, i tried to talk the other half into that in the first place Re: my kitchen...help needed please 7Dec 31, 2008 5:37 pm Your kitchen wall colour is the same colour as our old loungeroom. Can't believe it. It was a dulux suede effects colour. Bought back memories. We demolished a couple of years ago but it took me right back to that loungeroom. Re: my kitchen...help needed please 8Jan 01, 2009 1:17 pm Have you considered drawers to the left of your dishwasher? Our kitchen was pretty small but with drawers instead of cupboards, we have excess space now!!
I would recommend 600mm drawers as a minimum width if you are keen on the idea at all. Re: my kitchen...help needed please 11Jan 01, 2009 2:31 pm yeah, originally i wanted a corner pantry, but unfotunately that isnt feasible either because we would be no better bench space wise than we are now. We have to have the fridge where it is in the picture because it is a side by side and wont fit any where else, so we are very limited in what we can do Re: my kitchen...help needed please 12Jan 01, 2009 2:47 pm But if you are desperate for a bit more drawer space you could put another set underneath the microwave.
Oh, and are you planning on getting your new rangehood vented out the same wall as that old extractor? Or can you go out the roof instead; either way I would recommend that you do vent your hood externally - maybe check with your cabinetmaker if he is planning on doing this. Cheers, Earl Re: my kitchen...help needed please 13Jan 01, 2009 3:51 pm i hadn't thought about putting more drawers there, will have to think on whether that will be a worthy option- thanks
In regards to the rangehood, our cabinet maker will extract it to the roof cavity for us, then we have to get someone different to extract it out the roof? otherwise our cabinet maker said he could extract it out of one of our eaves...not sure what the better option is, but i thought the roof? Re: my kitchen...help needed please 14Jan 01, 2009 3:56 pm Straight up through the roof is definitely more efficient (and use straight sided steel ducting) - talk to your plumber to see if he can do the ducting and flashing for you; a lot of them offer this as part of their services.
Cheers, Earl Re: my kitchen...help needed please 15Jan 01, 2009 4:11 pm we have our flue....it's a cylinder shape...that's to have it ducted through to the roof cavity and he will do that for us no probs. It's just the actual putting the thingy ( i know...very technical huh ) through the roof top, if that makes sense, that i have to get someone in to do. Re: my kitchen...help needed please 16Jan 01, 2009 5:34 pm okay...figured out where to get the colours from..

I think I like the diamond door best, but that’s just my opinion Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: my kitchen...help needed please 19Jan 01, 2009 6:10 pm thanks
was trying to find colours that will allow me to go for a nice chocolate lounge, dark chocolate furniture, then add rusty reds in curtains and cushions and what not through the rest of the house. Still not sure bout adding the wenge for the middle cupboards, and having a similar colour bench top but am hoping my cabinet maker will be round in a few days and maybe help sort that out with me Re: my kitchen...help needed please 20Jan 01, 2009 6:11 pm This is not Wenge, but you can see the contrast anyway.
I used a Laminate chocolate colour. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ . Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14332 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15610 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7171 |
