Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 30, 2008 5:03 pm Hi. . .
Anyone heard of an Ariston upright cooker? The guy at Harvey Norman steered us away from the Smeg & said it was overall a better product. Apparently, its made in Italy and sold at Harvey Norman, don't know much else. Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 2Dec 30, 2008 5:50 pm Ariston is huge in italy, about 40% market share in italy. It's more like chef and westinghouse in italy. Quality wise i don't think it is that much different from smeg, but i think in UK smeg is considered more like a designer brand while ariston is more like an entry level brand. Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 4Jan 02, 2009 7:54 pm I remember the tv advert for ariston! Ariston and on and on and on.... because they are built to last! Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 5Jan 03, 2009 2:59 pm I heard some positive things from a girlfriend who has some Ariston products in her kitchen.
We decided against it though and went with the tried and trusty brands that we were comfortable with (even though we too were recommended them by, you guessed it, Harvey Norman ) Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 6Jan 03, 2009 4:46 pm Not sure about everyone else but I find it really difficult trying to determine what to buy when it comes to cookers etc. I too was pushed towards Ariston at Harvey Norman, but it got me thinking about some things:
- Harvey Norman import Ariston (I think) and only stock this product, are they well priced as being the only supplier they can basically dictate what happens with these products? - Do sales people get commissions for their sales? If so, do certain products provide better commissions for sales people? I tend to be paranoid around sales people, up their with used car dealers I reckon! Sorry going off track here.... ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 8Jan 08, 2009 1:54 pm You should see what else you can get with the same amount of money from different brands.
Im not a fan of ariston, HN makes a huge profit margin compared to most other brands. I think they are more like blanco, does the job but for how long? its anyones guess. Im a fan of bosch, asko, miele and smeg for premium line appliances Stgeorge, westinghouse and fisher& paykel for economy choices These are the companies i have no problem dealing with and their products look great. When i sold appliances, there were incentives for selling particular brands. But these brands were usually the big guns and needed the sales for the shareholders (always about them). So i wouldn't be be too worried about commissions. I maybe the only one but i used to sell honestly. If i knew a product was garbage i would tell them. If they still wanted to purchase it then they knew where i was for there soon replacement. There was a guy i got to know in another store who was as honest as myself and i would buy my appliances from him as they were also cheaper. I suppose what im trying to say is their are still good sales people around who can be trusted, you gotta know where to find them. Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! SmartPack did the kitchens for Channel 9's Home Made TV Show Re: Anyone heard of Ariston? 9Jan 12, 2009 8:36 pm I was in HN today with a friend who is buying a new upright cooker and the sales lady tried to steer her away from the Ilve to buy Ariston - get this though - the Ilve was $2997 and includes a rangehood with the price.... the Ariston was $2860 on its own......I said why wouldn't you buy the Ilve, it's a decent brand and you get the rangehood as well, but the lady was still trying to convince her to buy the Ariston, some babble about quality and italian made etc etc.....personally i think it had more to do with how much commission she gets...though of course I am only guessing.....funny thing is, when she realised my friend was keen on the Ilve and and almost walked away altogether, she started going on about how good Ilve is and why she should get it!!!
