Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Dec 15, 2008 6:02 pm Hi everyone
We are up to the final touches on our kitchen. Tiles, splash back, rangehood and cornicing to go.. My question is, how high should the rangehood be? I thought 600mm in line with the cupboards on the other side of the u-shaped kitchen but hubby thinks that is too low. Cooking with the rangehood so close to the pots seems to disturb him somewhat. Can anyone tell me if there is a set height or can you recommend a good height? We are having a canopy style range hood (Miele - if that makes a difference.) In anticipation of your help. Re: The final throws of kitchen design 2Dec 15, 2008 6:51 pm Australian Standards dictate a minimum of 600mm above the burner for an electric cooktop and 650mm for gas.
Beware of going too high as this will begin to compromise the efficacy of the hood's suction - many hoods have a maximum height included in their specifications...I wouldn't want to go over 700mm. I also like my rangehoods to be in line with the neighbouring cabinets, but that is a personal preference. I find that 600 - 650 allows me to work comfortably at a cooktop and I am 185cm...it's not like one spends hours bending over the pots and pans looking into them. Glad you have a better idea of these things.
