Suddently OH comes home and said he got a good deal on the LG side by side and be bought it yeah, thanks for asking me it has a water and ice dispenser on the front plus the little door on the other side for often used items ..like(champagne, milk, champagne). It's in storage so I haven't clapped eyes on it even, I have always been a bit wary of the side by sides because there doesn't look much room. All I can say is there had better be enough room for my "champagne" in there. Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 6Dec 07, 2008 2:02 pm We have bought two LG fridges with the freezer sitting on the bottom. They will sit side by side so look like a huge double door combo. One side has a water dispenser with ice maker in the freezer section whilst the other is just the plain model. They retail around $1800 for the water model & $1300 for the plain - we bought them at auction for $2200 for both.
We are currently using one in this place whilst we build and it is fantastic. SuH - you would love it. It has a quick chill sytem - you put your champagne in the freezer, press the button and it quick chills it then a little alarm buzzes when it is ready Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 7Dec 08, 2008 4:46 am We are keen on the F & P french door - with the freezer at the bottom. Is that the one you bought Sandra? I was avoiding the full french doors because I was worried about the doors eating into the fridge space. Then again 612 litres is a big fridge - then again our current fridge is just way not big enough. Best price I have found is Retravision at $2999. My criteria is space - hubby's criteria is ice and chilled water. Fi has moved in!! I think it's a pretty clever idea although not sure how often you'd change the configuration around.

We have an LG side by side fridge/freezer at the moment and its great. So we'll probably get a newer model of this. The one we have at the moment has the water/ice maker but FH wants the one with the mini door in the door (so technical ) so we'll look for a combo of both Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 13Dec 08, 2008 10:06 am With two doors just to the fridge section doesn't that make it harder ergonomically to use ? Unless you know exactly which side your desired item is on you'd have to open both doors. That means using two hands. It also means more seals, which is the weak point of any fridge. Do the hard jobs first. Most of the side by sides end up so narrow that it's difficult to fit anything in. I love my antipasto platters and cheese platters, etc, when I have people over so the french door fridge will be a god send when I get my new house. I think it will be pretty easy to get used to where everything is. Reaver, I along with many other have increased my fridge space to 1000mm. Get an idea of the size gridge you desire and that will give you an indication. A lot of the larger fridges are 900mm wide so 1000mm width is a good option. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. This is exactly why I am scared I love cheese platters myself and looking in my fridge this morning, I don't know where the hell I would fit what I have in there now in a side by side fridge, but I have to remember the freezer area will be another shelf and I will have my old fridge in the garage as well, so I'll try not to be too scared about it. Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 16Dec 08, 2008 1:24 pm The F&P french door fridge has the quick chill function too, dont ask me how to use it, that would invole reading the manual for what buttons to press.
Brittany I find that the doors dont eat into the fridge space at all. Note though that the ice is in the freezer draw. It fills up a big container adn you pull out teh\\he draw to get your ice. If you know you are having a few friends around for drinks you can take the small ice container out and let the freezer fill the bigger ice container. The fridge section also holds a watermelon nicely. Cabin fever, this fridge is a pain to get fruit vegies because both door have to open as the compartments are the single with of the fridge, at the time Electolux did a french door fridge but with single side draw pullout for fruit and another for the vegies. But we didnt like the build quality of that Brand. I have things that I use often like milk in one side of the door so that is the only door i open, or the cheese yoghurt is in the other side. But if I am starving I am guilty of just opeing both doors and having a dory around for something to eat. Sandra Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 17Dec 08, 2008 3:22 pm Good point Cabin Fever about opening both doors however the fitting the platter in is far more important to me. That just definitely is the decider over going with two doors or the F & P french door. This was a point I hadn't even considered till now. Not taking my DH with me in case he wants a little place to chill the champagne - and he loves his champagne and gadgets. What he doesn't know doesn't hurt him. Thanks Joles for the info on where to buy my fridge cheap. I have rang them already and are so excited to go there. Fi has moved in!! Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 18Dec 08, 2008 3:58 pm Currently we have an upside down Hoover Contour, which has served us well for 12 years. For the new house, I have found a Westinghouse side by side with water and ice. Although it's considerably smaller in the width, the Hoover will be in the garage as a drinks fridge and back-up for those large items such as the Christmas turkey or ham!
I saw the fridge on sale at David Jones today with $1000 off. Unfortunately, we have to hold off on buying it because 1) No where to put it yet, and 2)Buying it too soon without using it would waste a lot of the valuable warrantee. The fridge in our temp accomm is a standard fridge with freezer at the top, fridge down the bottom. This design now annoys me no end, having to bend to see what is in the fridge. So many things I miss because I just can't see them...love the upside down! The idea of the French style doors sounds fabulous, but I think the vege drawer would annoy me no end having to open both doors! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! We heard lots of good reviews about it, thus our decision to buy it. Re: Which fridge? and any feedback? 20Dec 27, 2008 6:03 pm We've also got the F&P french door fridge, paid $2690 inc. delivery (Aug 08).
The major downside we have found was the fruit/vegie compartment, and needing to open both doors to open the drawers, as mentioned above. As far as issues go, we have had constant problems with the ice maker not working/making ice. After several service visits the solution was for F&P to retrofit a heater for the water line coming into the ice maker, as the water was freezing and not reaching the ice tray. The tech left the service notes behind, part no. is 321026, and intro date for the fix is Dec 2008, if anyone is having the same issue this may save you some time and hassle.
