Anyone installed one of these from Howards Storage World? Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 2Dec 04, 2008 2:58 pm Hi, stonecutter
i have always liked the Howards Storage's ideas. i think if it can be fitted in easily, i will go for it - maybe some other ideas too!! (mind you, to ge the builder to add all these will cost quite a bit) nh Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 3Dec 04, 2008 3:15 pm I'd check out Hafele's bin systems. You'll be able to choose from a wider selection. The waste system starts on page 50 :

It was installed by our cabinet maker as he was bale to get it cheaper than at Howards......It has 2 sections, we would use 1 for recyclables nad the other for rubbish. The only thing you have to consider is that the door has to be open completely when you use it otherwise you get nice carved lines inside your doors and you always have to open the doors to use the bin. No biggie but it can be a pain depending on where you place it.
My SIL has hers under her sink.....so when we are all tidying up and someone is at the sink its a pain if someone else keeps wanting to use the bin.............. What happens if your cupboard is MORE than 340mm wide (internally)? What would you do to make up the extra width? Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 7Dec 04, 2008 7:05 pm I think Strumer is saying depth? I'm ok with having to open the cupboard completely - but I wonder if there is a better way of doing it? Maybe in a drawer? But what do you do with the space underneath? There's no cupboard for the bin at the moment - I'm thinking of re-arranging one part of the kitchen to accomodate it. Strumer - thanks for the tip on internal dimensions - didn't think of that! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 9Dec 04, 2008 7:50 pm SC, you could just do an pull out drawer....it houses a large bin and basically looks like a cupboard.....not as space saving but we had one in our island bench and I could just cut up all my vegies open the drawer and slide everything into the bin....good for crumbs too. We also had one in our laundry for the dog food(biscuits) we had a large bucket full of bickies that we had in one of those pull out drawers. Very handy and a good way of hiding the necessaries......... Yes we have one of these too, not sure of brand but looks like the one in photo but has front section and back section, we use front for rubbish and back for recyclabes, both sections are right size for plastic shopping bag. We have ours under the sink too, I think this is a common place for kitchen bins, in our old house we had a round flip top one under the sink, yes, its a minor problem if someone doing dishes and soemone else wants to get to the bin but that would be the case wherever you put it ie someone could be preparing food or whatever on the other bench Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 11Dec 04, 2008 10:19 pm hi, I'm new here. what a wonderful forum full of information! i got one of those bin systems at home that i bought from ikea many many years ago. the 4 bins sit on a tray that is attached to the door so when you open the door the whole tray slides out. they don't make them anymore though (see attached).
but if you like those bins that sit in a drawer, you can have a look at the franke. http://www.franke.com.au and click on "Eco Systems". They have one that you don't even have to open the door at all, just kick the pedal under the door and the bins pop out with the drawer. it's handy when both of your hands are occupied. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Under bench kitchen garbage bin 13Dec 05, 2008 11:12 am I've put a pull out drawer in our island bench That I will fit a bin into later.
