Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Nov 19, 2008 5:00 pm Hi there
I am with EBH. They have instructed me the splash back can be installed after the house has been handed over and that I need to have the rangehood as well as the gas cooktop uninstalled and removed for them to install the splashback. I can reinstall the rangehood/cooktop afterwards. Does this sound right? Doesn't seem to make sense to me? Am I missing something? Btw, the EBH folks are pretty shady, lots of ****** from the Sales folks, basically yes to everything as standard and then they hit you with varations galore. Thanks for letting me know! Franco Re: Kitchen Splashback installation 2Nov 19, 2008 6:07 pm It depends on the nature of your splashback - I am assuming that is is glass...
If the splash has to go up behind the rangehood or behind a free standing oven they will want you to take the appliances out for ease of installation; especially if it is being cut from a single sheet. If the splashback goes all the way up behind the (canopy) rangehood, then the glass will have to have holes drilled in it prior to toughening - then the hood has to come down to screw it back up through the glass afterwards. If neither your cooktop or your rangehood project into the "wall print" of the splashback it is quite possible that the job can be done without removing the appliances; however, depending on who does the glass for you, the installer may prefer those appliances to be out of the way to minimise any risk of damage to the glass through contact with the steel cooktop of rangehood. To me it sounds plausible, but not definitive - would need to see an image or elevation of the job to be sure. When I had mine installed they preferred my rangehood to be un-installed. My cooktop however did not need to come out but there is about 25-30mm between the cooktop edge and back wall. Once they've tempered the glass they can not drill or trim it. I'd make EBH arrange everything with the splashback guys so that EBH un-install the appliances and re-install them later on. Can you not make handover until the splashback is finalised? Because the glass needs to be basically left alone for 48hrs until you can re-install appliances. I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5177 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6112 |
