Comments pls, good n' bad....... Thanks Re: Walk in Pantry 4Nov 11, 2008 8:23 pm A great idea!!!!
the one light in the house that is always left on accidentally I have sensors in the bathrooms, works for forgetful kids, not so good for the middle of the night toilet break but in the pantry would be fantastic. i would have an override switch so you can have it on permanently. It has this (not sure if that is just standard with sensor lights?)- we have one for our garage as well - love it too! Quote: It has this (not sure if that is just standard with sensor lights?)- In the normal sensor mode the light switch is "on" the light will turn on with movement and turn off after a set time. To override you turn the light switch "off" then "on" quickly and the light stays on. To go back to sensor you turn "off" for about 20-ish seconds and then "on". There will be differences between models I'm sure, but generally that's how they work. Quote: we have one for our garage as well - love it too! Same here...we have two steps into the garage and it saves turning on all the flouros just to get something in the garage. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Walk in Pantry 7Nov 11, 2008 10:20 pm My Dad, has a sensor light for the powder rooms and pantry.....its awesome but just one thing to consider.........always make sure your door is closed otherwise your light will come on when you walk past and this will defeat the purpose of having the sensor. Thats if the sensor is to cloe to the opening of the door. Also good for when you get home a night - lights come on as you drive into the garage! Sorry, think we were originally talking about the pantry, but the sensor lights are great! Our electrician made sure it wouldn't be triggered by someone walking past the pantry door, you have to step into it for the light to come on. Re: Walk in Pantry 9Nov 12, 2008 7:39 am we had a sensor light on our front porch and in the carport in the last house. this was terrific for when you came home l.ate at night. We'll prob do the same in our new house. hmm I think I like the idea of one in the pantry. Will have to investigate this. You know why thats so funny Jo K.....My Dad is the electrician that installed them. Re: Walk in Pantry 12Nov 12, 2008 8:52 am Just on sensor lights... I would consider one for the garage for safety.... but nowhere else. Kids should learn the responsibilty of leaving things how they find them, turning lights off is part of that. It just breeds laziness and an attitude of "someone or something else will take care of things for me, I don't have to worry"
Sorry, I'm just really old fashioned on things like this.... I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Walk in Pantry 13Nov 12, 2008 9:12 am Joles, The thought of doing this, would not be for my kids it would be for me I am hopeless when it comes to turning lights off and I leave them on in the knowledge that I am going back to that room..............in an hour
So, I will still teach the boy its important to turn lights off and hopefully in the meantime I can save a little bit on my electricity bill and maybe some of what I teach him will rub off on me. Its good to have old fashioned values.....I have them for him I just forget for myself. Re: Walk in Pantry 16Nov 12, 2008 11:12 am Quote: Just on sensor lights... It just breeds laziness and an attitude of "someone or something else will take care of things for me, I don't have to worry" I'm sure there are plenty of other light switches in the house that the kids get to use to learn to turn the lights off. With a walk in pantry, most of the time it is purely walk in find what you need then go back out again & the sensor light is perfect for that. I'd never even thought about it as a laziness thing Re: Walk in Pantry 17Nov 12, 2008 11:18 am I was actually more referring to the earlier stuff about bathrooms and toilets, where people were saying kids leave the light on. I wasn't really talking specifically about the pantry... sorry I should have been clearer.
Sometimes I know what I'm talking about... but I explain it all wrong. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Walk in Pantry 19Nov 12, 2008 4:17 pm I'm with you, Helyn
