Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 21Nov 14, 2008 9:00 pm We installed ours, never had a dishwasher before, bought it, read the instructions and 15 mins later using it. So easy! could have done it without any instructions. Our LG is heavenly, cheap! quiet! lots of cycles and washes and dries to perfection. I haven't seen my dishes so sparkly before. Go for a new one - you won't know yourself. Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 22Nov 17, 2008 9:51 am We installed ours also, obviously all the plumbing is there, you just turn off the water to the house, get a bucket for the water left in the hose, disconnect power and hoses, pull dishwasher out of space. Should be able to connect the new the same way the old one was... Dont forget to turn on the water to the house after all that. (Reminder to self).
Oh and my LG is now about 5 or 6 years old , apart from the motherboard needing replacing it is just as good as it was new and quiet, cleans well, and dries too. To bad it cant put everythng away too. I also put my 100year old plates in there and they havent been destroyed. So it is gentle too. I put it on last night at 4.30pm...it went until 7.30pm (with me having to move it along manually 4 times), and when I opened it right after it had finished, it wasn't even hot, and everything had hardly been rinsed...*sigh* SO annoying!! For a 3 hour cycle (just the rinse cycle. We can never use the standard wash cycle as it just doesn't work), 90% of it was just soft whirring, no water sounds or anything. Yeah. A new one is in order me thinks. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 25Nov 22, 2008 10:59 am The place we're renting, which was brand new when we moved in, has a Nobel dishwasher. We've owned two dishwashers before (the last a fancy electronic job, only bought about 5 years ago), so we're not dishwasher dummies.
BUT, we had the same probs with the dial getting stuck, and then we'd also find the dishes simply not clean, no matter which wash program you chose. There was also undissolved powder in the little holder thingy. I read the manual, which was no help, and eventually rang the service people for advice. The guy I spoke to was really helpful and I discovered that while I'd been cleaning the filters, I wasn't getting the fine mesh one clean (it was hard to tell - I swear I'm not stupid... ). The guy told me that the new models run on much lower water pressure, so if the filters are at all gunked up, not enough water gets through and therefore the cycle stops, the powder doesn't dissolve and dishes stay dirty. D'oh! The solution was simply to take all the filters out once a week and give them a good scrub. Easy. We never have problems any more, unless I forget to clean the filter... I'm still underwhelmed by the Nobel machine, with its impossible to adjust baskets and crappy rack design. Can't wait to get into our own place and try out the Blanco... Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 26Nov 22, 2008 7:49 pm Oh really??? Wow, that's an interesting thing...the filters, eh? Uh...how do you actually find the filters?? What are they, where are they, what do they look like, how do you remove them and how do you clean them? lol
I tried ringing Nobel but was quite concerned to find that their service line just had a recording saying they couldn't take my call right now but to call back later. The sales line went not to Nobel but to some unrelated building company. And the contact form on their website never worked. Whenever I'd click to send/submit, it'd come back with an error page. Hmm...good to know you got through to someone. If you instruct me a bit, lol, I'll try cleaning the filters and see what that does. Although, I don't think even if it doesn't get stuck during the cycle that it'd be overly efficient...I mean, a 3 hour standard cycle is just ridiculous. It's this long even when it doesn't get stuck! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 27Nov 22, 2008 8:42 pm The model number of the one we have here is NBFSD/EM-SS (I assume the filters are similar in all their machines, but who knows?).
I've tried to find a picture online, but no luck, so I'll try to explain.... The filters are in the bottom of the machine - there's a perforated stainless steel bit, with a plastic thingy (sort of a cup-shaped depression) and a handle sticking up out of the middle. If you pull it, the whole thing comes out. That's actually a two-part filter - the stainless mesh is one filter, plus the centre plastic bit catches large food scraps etc. Rinse it and make sure you get any crud out of it. If you look in the space underneath where that assembly was, there's another cylindrical bit - lift that out and you'll see the sides are a very fine mesh. Wash it in hot soapy water, giving it a bit of a scrub with a brush. Put the mesh filter back (it should have "top" marked on one edge so you can tell which way it goes), then replace the other bit, pressing it in place. The manual says to clean it once a month, but the service line guy said once a week, so I'm sticking with that. It only takes a couple of minutes if you do it every week. Hopefully that all makes sense and will get your machine working better. Seriously, I don't think much of the Nobel quality. I had a Dishlex and then an LG dishwasher for YEARS and I don't think I ever cleaned the filter once. They never let me down... Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 28Nov 22, 2008 9:52 pm Coolness. I'll have a look when I finally get off my butt here and go into the kitchen. *lazy*
I'm still probably going to get a new dishwasher. I just want to make totally sure first that the same issues won't still be there when I do. That'd just suck. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 29Dec 12, 2008 11:25 am My dishwasher issues have escalated greatly in the past 2 weeks.
It used to work (just barely acceptably, but still worked) maybe half the time. But in the past 2 weeks I’ve put it on a total of 8 times and not one single time has it worked at ALL. I’ve tried so many things. I’ve cleaned the filters, I’ve tried putting hardly any dishes in there, I’ve tried using just the rinse cycle, then just the wash cycle, I’ve tried starting it with the dial right exactly on the cycle, a tiny bit before and a tiny bit after, I’ve tried putting a tablet in the thing, I’ve tried powder in the thing, I’ve tried not even USING the thing (cause it never opens by itself anymore anyway) and have been sprinkling powder over the dishes… The problem every single time is that it’ll start ok, but then it’ll just get stuck and not move onto the next part of the cycle. It just sits there. It’d sit for literally hours (or possibly forever) if I didn’t manually move it on. So I have to do this with every single cycle. And I don’t know how long to let each cycle go for, or even if any of them are working even once they do start (after I manually start them). What always happens is when I open the door after it finally finishes (it does seem able to complete the last very quick cycles by itself with no assistance), it feels warm but not hot, and although there is a bit of water on the door and stuff, there’s still dry powder as well, and the dishes are dry and not clean at all. Also, when I cleaned the filter (which wasn’t very dirty anyway), the hole where it goes was full of old water. It hasn’t drained out. It just seems that every single possible problem that could happen with a dishwasher is happening with mine! 1. Water not coming in enough to clean the dishes 2. Cycles not moving on 3. Powder dispenser never opens 4. Cycles take ridiculous amounts of time even when they did used to move on by themselves 5. Water not draining (this could be me accidentally skipping that part of the cycle as the washer hasn’t moved to it automatically and I obviously don’t know what each turn of the dial actually does) 6. Cannot put dinner plates anywhere in the bottom rack as the arm swings and hits them. Cannot seem to raise the top rack so avoid this. And if I could raise it, then most of my glasses (which aren’t very short) wouldn’t fit in there. 7. Also, the top rack’s place for things like mugs, it’s not a wide enough shelf area. You put the mug on, and it’s half hanging off so it falls off. 8. Dishes not clean I can’t wait to get another dishwasher, but I’m really nervous, as I’ve said probably a few times now, that it’ll have the same problems. Could it have anything to do with the fact that when I use the hot water mixer side in the kitchen, that the water pressure seems about a third to that of the cold water mixer tap? It’s seriously annoying trying to wash dishes manually because it takes so long for the sink to fill up with the hot water. The cold though is normal and gushes out. Hot water pressure in both bathrooms in terms of the taps and showers is fine though. What if the dishwasher can’t heat water itself so depends on hot water from the tap and that combined with the apparently very low water pressure this brand uses is causing the lack of water when on the cycle? What if that same thing happens with a new washer and I waste my money? I just don’t understand why this has happened!!! I’ve had so many washers and they’ve all been absolutely no trouble at all! *cursed* It is at all common to have problems like this NOT just caused by a particular dishwasher? Could it be a fault with my apartment’s plumbing? I don’t know if anyone else in the building has the same dishwasher and has these issues. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 31Dec 12, 2008 12:45 pm Yep, ours is just connected to the cold water and heats the water itself, dishes are piping hot! You've done everything right and then some! I would say your dishwasher has had it! on it's last leg, last toe, last toenail! Time for a new one, in the great scheme of things, they are really quite cheap, my LG is fantastic - I would really recommend them for one of the cheaper ones, every wash is brilliantly clean and dry. Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 32Dec 12, 2008 2:11 pm Ohhhh, as I read those words, clean, dry, LG, etc, I was swooning with lust for that type of FUNCTIONAL and easy to use dishwasher. Ugh…*groan of sorrow* lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 33Dec 13, 2008 6:52 pm Well. The saga continues.
I spoke too soon when I said that every possible problem that could happen to a dishwasher has happened to our's...another problem has now arisen. We got up this morning and noticed there is a large wet spot in the (new) carpet right by the end of our breakfast bar. It appears the dishwasher has not been draining water at all, and now it has leaked and filled the space behind it, and has caused this carpet wetness. Also, the kitchen cupboards in that area at the front have swollen. So we dread to think what they're like inside, where the water has pooled. *SIGH* I don't know why the washer isn't draining at all, but when we opened it, the dishes were not clean at all, and yet the whole bottom was full of water that was about 2 inches deep. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHH!! So now we have to get a plumber out to somehow drain that water away, and also take the washer out to drain the water behind the cavity, and also find out what the actual problem is, cause even if it isn't draining, surely it shouldn't be coming out behind the cupboards and onto the carpet beneath the cupboards!? Then we will hopefully be able to lodge an insurance claim for water damage...BAH! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 34Dec 15, 2008 8:06 am Hey grace, look under the sink where the drain hose goes in to the drain, make sure the hole has been drilled to allow the water in to the drain as they don't come pre-drilled like I thought as well Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 35Dec 17, 2008 3:52 pm Well well. The plumber has just been. He isn't 100% sure where the water's coming from, but he put the dishwasher on for a few minutes to drain the pooled water (the only reason we hadn't done this already was that we didn't want to create even MORE water), and then the power went off. Wonderful.
One of the switches in the fuse box had gone off, so there's some sort of electrical issue going on. The plumber thinks the leak might be at the heating element of the dishwasher as it's right near where the kitchen cupboard damage is, and it would get the water into the electricals that way...he's not sure, but he thinks that'd make sense. There's definitely no leak coming from anywhere else, and yet when he moved the washer out from its cavity, quite a bit of water came out with it from on that side. So...$88 and now we can lodge our claim for the kitchen kickboard damage, and also the grout/tile damage seeing as the swollen chipboard from behind the tiles is causing the grout to crack and flake off. Our new grout!! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 37Dec 18, 2008 1:09 pm Yeah, I know! So it’s back to washing up again. *sigh* I have grown up with dishwashers and never had any troubles until now. When I rented for the last 5 years I had no dishwasher and waited impatiently and eagerly for the day when I’d have one again, and now this happens. I’m cursed! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 38Dec 19, 2008 6:41 pm Yikes! I was happy to leave the crappy Nobel behind at the rental property and our new Blanco works a treat. So far. I'm still cleaning the filters regularly, just in case....
Hope your insurance covers all the damage. Re: I don't get my dishwasher!!! 40Dec 22, 2008 6:19 pm You need to buy a new dishwasher, Nobel are a cheap Generic brand, if you open up and look inside a Nobel, Vennini, Conia, Cheaper range of Delongi and even some fisher and paykel and wirlpool you will notice they are the same inside with a different door outside. They range from $400 to $1000 for whats pretty much the same dishwasher with a different logo.
If you buy a new one I would recomend one with a anti leak hose, and a leak proof system. The anti leak hose has a big box on it just before the fitting, this has a valve in it which cuts of the water if it detects a leak from the a drop in pressure. Some also have a system where if the drain gets blocked or something it wont leak and flood. the best dishwasher you can buy is a miele. They are with out a doubt the best in terms of quality and performance but they are expensive. Bosh and AEG are really good too. I used to work at Rick Hart (untill 3 months ago) and have sold thousands of dishwashers. I dont work in that industry anymore though. If you dont want to spend big bucks I recomend Whirlpool (not chinese made ones), Blanco or possibly LG. Fisher and Pykel used to be O.k but they are now making there dishwashers in china and the quality has dropped. Electrolux, westinghouse and dishlex are all the same brand and are not too bad, but the qualitly isnt on par with the european made ones. LG are abit hit and miss. They make some models that I have had no problems with and others that I always had customers calling up complaining about. As rule of thumb they are not too bad but try and get one that doesnt have too many gimmicks if you can. Honestly though it is worth saving up and buying a good dishwasher that will work well and be reliable. The ceapest Miele is around $1299 from memory but well worth the investment. Miele is the same price where ever you buy it as stores are an agent for meile not re-sellers. If your in Perth rick hart seconds is worth a look, they do bulk buys where you can get brand new in box stock at seconds prices sometimes. Not always good stuff there it is luck of the draw to what they have when you go but cant hurt to look. I am installing a new Bosch SMU4HTS01A built under dushwasher. I have 2 questions.
