Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Mar 29, 2015 2:56 pm I would really love soft close drawers in my new kitchen but having a lot of drawers, not many cupboards I'm thinking it may be an expense I can do without, but can I do without soft close drawers???. Those that have them, do you really love them and why?. What's the difference in price between soft close and normal drawers?. Are you able to install the soft close mechanism later on down the track?. Being that I know my kitchen is probably going to go over budget I need to forgo some things, can't have everything, opinions, ideas everyone, thanks Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 2Mar 29, 2015 3:32 pm Danette I would really love soft close drawers in my new kitchen but having a lot of drawers, not many cupboards I'm thinking it may be an expense I can do without, but can I do without soft close drawers???. That is what I am doing although I did spring for soft close toilet seats. Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 3Mar 29, 2015 3:48 pm definitely get soft close drawers, the mechanism will be almost the same price some kitchen companies you cannot get normal drawer runners anymore ours were standard soft close or special order for normal but imo soft close cupboard doors feel like the door is binding or the hinge is bent Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 4Mar 29, 2015 5:55 pm I got prices and it was an expense we didn't need straight away, however you look on ebay and there cheap, obviously Ebay is cheaper but it probably wouldn't hurt to give them a go or to find a decent but cheaper brand. Best bet is to get prices off of them and see though Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 5Mar 29, 2015 6:44 pm Well, definitely worth it for me (not us). Reason.....well, the Mrs has a tendency to take her frustrations out on the kitchen cupboard doors when I get in front of the TV and get stuck into watching the footy. So, she decides to go and bash a few cupboard doors to get her frustration out and annoy me. So, I recommended to put them in and she was soooooo happy thinking "how sweet".....not knowing the real reason. Peace and quiet.....YEAH!! Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 6Mar 29, 2015 9:52 pm Soft close drawers and cupboards were a must have - we have absolutely no regrets in getting them. They are like soft close toilet seats - once you've used/had them you can never go back! ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 7Mar 29, 2015 10:09 pm PAB_34 Soft close drawers and cupboards were a must have - we have absolutely no regrets in getting them. Like other posters said, check out price and brand being supplied. The difference may not be that great. Best bet is to get prices off of them and see though What ever you do don't do what is written above!!! The softclose additions for standard runners on ebay are terriable and not worth the money. I have seen many standard drawers retrofitted with softclose and its a very very poor imitation of the real thing! Buyer beware! Its worth the money now to fit proper softclose drawers from Blum or Hettich as they come with a lifetime warrenty. To save a few dollars you could fit Blum softclose for wooden drawers. We don't have kids, but I have the same situation as justwondering...an other half who likes to slam things! I think it's hilarious when DH is in a mood and tries to slam a drawer or door...and nothing! Haha! But that's not the only reason, obviously. After having them, and now living in my parents' place which doesn't have them, I miss them! Our builder includes them as standard, but I would pay for them if I had to. I think they included Blum, we never had any problems with them, and now can't live without them (even though we are at the moment). Worth the money! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 13Apr 06, 2015 11:18 pm CuttingEdgeKitchens Its worth the money now to fit proper softclose drawers from Blum or Hettich as they come with a lifetime warrenty. To save a few dollars you could fit Blum softclose for wooden drawers. So what is your thoughts on the add-on soft close mechanisms from Blum, Hettich etc? I retrofitted my Hettich Multitech drawers with OEM soft close mechanisms and have not had an issue in the two years they have been in. Cost was about $10 a drawer, double for my larger pot drawers as it needed two mechanisms. I also changed over the standard hinges on my cupboards for Softclose too. Cost was about $5 a hinge for Hettich Sensys soft close from a Kitchen hardware supply company. Ironically the cost of buying new hinges and throwing the old ones out worked out to be about $20 per door cheaper than paying the upgrade price from the kitchen supply company, even worse when the cost difference from standard to soft close is about $2.50! Add on softclose for the doors is great from Blum and Hettich Only a few drawer systems can be upgrade with softclose from Hettich and Blum. The ones that can are good. Most people buy cheap and nasty systems they work across all brands and they are terriable! I asked my kitchen company how much each soft close drawer is compared to a normal drawer and it's $60 for each drawer. My kitchen is currently being designed and it's mostly drawers, not many cupboards but I think with the new kitchen company I've found to build my kitchen I may be able to afford it. I may have to forgo other things like the pull out drawers in the pantry but I do love soft close. It all comes down to what's important to you. A friend recently said to me ' try to have one thing you absolutely love in each room' so for me it's my stone bench top then softclose (oops that's two, oh well Thanks everyone Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 16Apr 21, 2015 5:15 pm Has anyone heard of and user harn? The standard runners going into our drawer systems are of harn brand, I have spoken to a dealer and they recommended the harn sylent to just screw to it. It's basically an accessory as the standard runners stay there. Are these any good? Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 17Apr 22, 2015 12:25 am Harm is the oem producer for grasse And is made in Malaysia. I have been to their distributor in Singapore and they look pretty good. That said I paid extra and went with blum. It's worth looking at for sure but I would go for their top end as it is very similar to blue hettich etc Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 18Apr 22, 2015 9:18 pm No worries thanks for that, apparently the sylent mechanism is made in Germany from what an agent was telling me. I already have there standard runners on my drawers and this sylent mechanism it just screws in underneath. Apparently you only need one, up to a certain width of drawers anyway Re: Soft Close Drawers - are they worth it? 19Apr 23, 2015 7:42 am Nic and Shell 1 No worries thanks for that, apparently the sylent mechanism is made in Germany from what an agent was telling me. Apparently you only need one, up to a certain width of drawers anyway I haven't had any experience with this add on soft close but all the other ones I have seen are total rubbish. One big problem with add on soft close is that your left with bargain basement standard runners. Its a bit like putting a Ferrari badge on a Holden. As the draw looks like a 'U' shapped type thin metal draw system, Looks and feels very cheap which I not overly happy about. I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into.
