Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 12, 2023 6:57 am Hi all, We have 60cm of space above the kitchen cabinets. We could have made storage all the way to the top but cost would have been big I guess. We looking for alternatives as we are thinking we dont want a normal bulkhead all the way to the top. Any suggestion please. Thankyou. You get the benefit of it looking almost the same as having the cabinets run to the ceiling, but you're not paying for hinges, shelves, supports etc. Re: 3 meter ceiling, 60cm above kitchen bulkhead alternative 3Apr 12, 2023 3:28 pm i doubt that extending storage upwards would cost that much. simple cabinets with doors aren't that expensive. it's usually the drawers that add a lot. you'll probably find that making a "bulkhead" out of the same material wouldn't be much cheaper than simply putting a second row of cupboards in. Re: 3 meter ceiling, 60cm above kitchen bulkhead alternative 4Apr 12, 2023 11:44 pm Gyprock bulkhead will certainly cost much more then cabinet panels. Although it just doesn't make much sense to have storage at that height from practicality standpoint. But it looks you would also have to integrate aircon duct into same space somehow? Re: 3 meter ceiling, 60cm above kitchen bulkhead alternative 5Apr 13, 2023 7:51 am We've done this in our kitchen. The idea is that you would use top row for storing things that are only used couple of times a year, so using a small ladder to get them is nbd. Thanks strannik. We are considering this option and getting the joiner to price us something. Great to know you have done this. Would you mind sharing us some pictures to visualise this? Did you have 3meter ceiling? Re: 3 meter ceiling, 60cm above kitchen bulkhead alternative 8Apr 13, 2023 5:17 pm alexp79 Gyprock bulkhead will certainly cost much more then cabinet panels. Thanks alexp79 We were thinking panels but the joiner is to confident or i guess he is pretty much against them route as the panel can be glued or stuck on the the frame above the cabinet and not screwed. Not getting much traction here. We are thinking atleast cabinet, yes would need to consider the rangehood duct. Though sparsely used atleast it hopefully looks a bit better. Thanks again. Looks good. The joiner has come back with a quote of close to 5k. I think we are going to not do it. Attaching panelling is something they are dead against. So we no other option than gyprock it. sigh. what's the rationale on this? In my mind, the risk weepholes mitigate isn't solved by acrylic render. 9 34509 Many thanks for your reply.
