Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 02, 2022 4:24 pm Hi everyone, TL;DR - old stove is 900mm wide but not very deep so don't know how to find a new stove that will fit the 600mm benchtop. I have an old kitchen that I am looking to do a quick reno/repair on (only needs to last about 3 years until we knockdown/rebuild so trying to do it in a cost efficient manner) The current electric stove is very old and has weird dimensions of 900mm wide but only 435mm deep. The benchtop is MDF and a touch under 600mm deep. All the new electric stoves seem to be 900mm wide but 530mm deep. There are slimline 900mm stoves but they are only 350mm deep (and so would leave like a 90 mm gap with the existing hole size) My main question is whether I could cut a bigger hole in the benchtop without compromising the structural integrity of it (since it would only be about 3-4cm of remaining benchtop on both sides if the stove were 530mm deep). I was thinking of reinforcing the benchtop underneath with a long thin piece of aluminium and wood. Otherwise, does anyone else have any suggestions of what I could do here? Was thinking of getting a budget stove like this: https://devanti.com.au/products/devanti ... ol-6-zones Thanks in advance! The actual cut out is 490mm so you will have roughly 50mm front and back. The front will have a rail behind the top of the drawers. Hopefully it's a vertical rail so you only have to cut through the benchtop and not the benchtop and rail all together. If it's a vertical rail just start your cut out 5mm behind it so you can still use any clips to hold the cooktop down. The back of the bench sits on the carcass and the front will be supported by the front rail.
