Hi,
I am going to start demolition of my old kitchen soon. My house was built in the early 70s and has asbestos in the wet areas. I'm pretty sure the builder has placed a sheet of asbestos over the gyprock and then tiled over that for the splashbacks in the kitchen. The reason i think its asbestos , is the splashbacks protudes out from the wall at a thickness greater than the tile thickness. Was this common practice in the 70s?
Now, for the hard part. If it is asbestos (I'm about 60% sure it is), what is the best way of removal? I want to retile the area.
Would you recommend a contractor to remove the tiles from the asbestos or should i just cut the surrounding gyprock and take the panel of asbestos splashback (complete with tiles) completely off?
Thoughts and Suggestions much appreciated.
Regards
