Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Oct 01, 2021 12:10 am Hi guys, we can't come to a conclusion as we near making a final decision on this. Please see a sketch of our kitchen and island (no butler's pantry).
The island and wine storage location + dimensions are set, as is the L shape location and dimension. The 'L' shape will be entirely kitchen counter except for wherever the fridge will be positioned. The joinery is not yet done, so we have room to play there, and we can use part of the countertop to create a section of floor to ceiling cabinetry if appropriate. We would just love your thoughts on where to position the: - fridge - cooktop - sink (+ drying rack) - dishwasher - oven - microwave cutout The island measures 3m x 1m, and the overall kitchen measures 4.7m (from northern edge of wine storage to southern end of kitchen) x 3m (width of the southern counter span including where fridge currently sits in the south east corner). MOST IMPORTANTLY - we want to remove the sink from the island so the island is nothing but bench, whilst maximising as much L-shape counter space as possible in conjunction with practicality and workflow. How would you structure the utilities in our kitch 2Oct 01, 2021 12:48 am Best is to follow the following route for the right handed person: 1) open the fridge, take something out, put to your washing/unpacking zone on your right; 2) wash, so best to place the washer to the right again from your washing zone area; 3) after washing, move further to the right and place washed items into your cutting area; 4) after cutting, move further to the right and place cut items into the oven or onto the stove; 5) for right handed person you would want to place dishwasher to the right from your sink; Re: Help! Going by what you've written and starting from the south-eastern corner, it sounds like you'd keep the fridge where it is, small counter area immediately next to it, then place the sink on the southern end of the L with the drying rack in the south-western corner, then as we head north up the L, you would first up have a bench space for chopping, then the cooktop (with perhaps oven directly underneath), then more bench space to the right of the cooktop where we could use appliances like toaster/airfryer/ricecooker/kettle when these are not in storage. Is this correct? Re: Help! How would you structure the utilities in THIS kitc 4Oct 01, 2021 12:09 pm Hi @Molo Audace Your biggest constraint is going to be fitting everything into the space you have available. Whilst what Alex has said is great in a commercial kitchen where they have stations for everything a domestic kitchen has to blend practicalities of being a working kitchen along with limited space available and keeping the aesthetic. Once you move the sink off the island (which I always try to do as well) you are going to start to get pretty tight around that back wall. A couple of questions. What sort of ovens do you want wall or underbench? Is 900mm wide enough for your fridge space? What is the distance from the wine cabinet to the back wall, in other words the bench length down that wall. I can only see 2 possible layouts for you based on your responses I'll try and run you through them.
