I am going to do a cheap reno on this kitchen but hopefully not replace the cabinetry. I am going to be tiling the lounge and dining which are open plan into the kitchen. Should I tile to the edge of the cabinetry and just keep enough tiles for 5yrs later when i redo the whole kitchen and the cabinet floorplan will change. Or... Would it be better to just go to the edge of the kitchen area and just leave the lino for now and that way the tiler could probably finish to the edge of the kitchen and dining with a full tile. Then in 5yrs finish the rest. My instinct is to just tile the kitchen too because it probably doesnt matter if the tiler has to remove a few cut tiles (the ones that went to the edge of the old cabinetry) in 5 years. Second question! Will the same colour grout be available in 5yrs? Or should I keep extra grout. Normally the tiler supplies the grout I think. As for where to stop, do the living areas and stop when you cant put any more full tiles to the kitchen end leaving a single straight edge to the tiles. This makes cutting now and continuing in 5 years easier. I nearly did this myself until I got a bulk lot of tiles for $10/sqm instead of $25+/sqm.
