Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 10, 2016 8:14 pm The builder is stating this and has installed a bench with a join. The bench is white they have used light grey cement in the join. It looks horrible Summary We requested the island kitchen benchtop (Caesar stone organic white), be made from a single piece/slab requiring no cuts. The bench has been installed in two pieces Join is noticeable - off white/light grey cement used in join 1 Owner Initially requested larger island kitchen bench than 3060x1400 1a Sub-sequentially advised by coral that anything bigger that 3060x1400 size would involve a cut/join 1b Coral advised cut would likely be toward end of bench and not through sink 2 Owner requested Coral supply largest benchtop without a cut 3 Final bench size advised by coral 3a 3034mm from a 3060mm slab 3b 26 mm left for water fall edges - 13mm each end for waterfall join 4 This request was verified by Coral in writing internally by BDM and Interior Consultant – not a case of sales making unqualified promises. 5 Owner validated with Caesar stone directly on slab size and how to avoid a join. 6 Builder installed bench with join 7 Builder states casar stone wont warrant bench over 3000mm, hence the cut 7a Caesar stone verified they will warrant every size of their slabs, this information is also available on their website. Hypothetically If this is the case no one from Coral, or a contractor under their direction, BDM/Estimator/Interior consultant/Stonemason etc, either 1 advise against the additional 3cm to avoid voiding warranty or 2 to avoid easily visible join on a feature white benchtop Really need some help here the builder is trying to steamroll us I spoke to Caesar and they advised that this is what the builder is doing How do I get the builder to fix this - I am seeking help from QBCC how much slab can you use of a 3060mm typically ? why is the cement used not white? is that normal? I will upload pictures really appreciate any help keeping the Re: Caesarstone wont warrant bench over 3000mm?! -from 3060s 2Jul 11, 2016 11:21 am The builder is totally in the wrong. Caesarstone will warrant any size top if it can be cut out of a slab and doesn't have an overhang of more than 300mm. What he is telling you is totally wrong and he is just trying to protect the kitchen company they employed. Stand your ground, refuse to pay the next progress payment until its resolved. Email CaesarStone and ask directly if a solid bench top 3034x?? is covered under there warranty. Then give there response to the builder. Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes! We requested largest single slab bench, coral designed to 3034mm(very specific number not customer request sizeing) it and confirmed it was one slab in writing. 2. Caesar stone will warrant the slab of any size 3. workmanship is substandard - cement used does not match the bench top - light grey appearance 1cm gap from waterfall edges to cabinetry - needing huge wad of silicone to fill. thanks for your advise on withholding payment, I will add this to discussions with builder. I have advised them I am seeking legal counsel and will contact QBCC. Do you know how much is typically trimmed off a slab ie slab is 3060 1-2 cms is standard etc? I am still trying to get picture hosted Thanks again for the advice, really appreciate it Re: Caesarstone wont warrant bench over 3000mm?! -from 3060s 4Jul 11, 2016 4:11 pm So do you have an overall benchtop size of 3034mm with no join documented from the builder? It sounds like a few corners have been cut. The glue used for joins should be the same colour as the stone and there shouldn't be huge wads of silicon anywhere! Stay strong! The only warranty issue we had was the overhang, which we solved by going 30mm thick slab for a 400mm overhang. So far very happy with it after 4 years; wearing well, no long term staining even with tumeric. Re: Caesarstone wont warrant bench over 3000mm?! -from 3060s 6Jul 25, 2016 9:23 pm Thanks everyone for your support and giving me confidence. I can confirm the builder is going to rectify!!! Couldn't be happier, it was a smart choice because that would have bugged me for the rest of my days and undone some of the good work they have done. Re: Caesarstone wont warrant bench over 3000mm?! -from 3060s 7Aug 04, 2016 4:45 pm I'm glad they are rectifying but can't say I'm surprised. Not a huge fan of coral homes at the moment. Their knowledge of product is terrible and they just pull 'facts' out of their butts. I argued for weeks that an in wall Cistern designed to fit in a standard wall cavity of 70mm dos not need a double wall of 180mm to fit. Basic maths. Anyway. We also asked for a quote for supernatural ultimate stone to the whole kitchen in our tender. This was approx $11k. At colour variations i decided I didn't actually want all calacatta nuvo bench tops and received a piddling credit. It was then explained to me that 'calacatta nuvo is not supernatural ultimate'. Obviously it is. But anyway. I'm glad they are rectifying and hope your experience with them hasn't been as bad as some others including myself! C U S T O M. C O R A L.
