The paint has some old lead layers and was painted last in the 80s, where it cracked after little time from a miss match of paint types. While the boards are seemingly above board, a great majority of the paint is flaking off. I have done a large area with an American tool, the Paint Shaver Pro, but it has left the corners and was too hard to get into some areas. There is a lot to do with a heat gun, if I want to get it to the bare wood that the shaver tool did, and I would probably have to sand it after that anyway (it seems like you don't have to sand the shaver tool's areas really).
