I'm trying to find more info on Dulux Lexicon and White on White - as to whether they are cool or neutral and would they be OK to paint all over the house (I understand rooms in the south might look different with the same colour paint as rooms in the north), also do you recommend that we have the ceiling the same colour, or is that a definite no-no? Also I'm sure that by now you know that I'm a great fan of industrial/cool look, how would the paint go with black, grey and some red (as in furniture) and beech timber floor? Way too cold you think? Thanks Michelle Re: White walls 2Nov 06, 2006 10:23 am Mek, promise to get to your question later this afternoon after work!
In between have you seen the link I put up on colour? Have a look; it may give you something to think about till I get back to you…. Thanks Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: White walls 3Nov 06, 2006 6:25 pm Mek,
Dulux “White on White” is a warm white; it has a yellow tint in it, Yellow being a warm colour. Dulux “Lexicon” is a cool white; it has a blue tint in it, Blue being a cool colour. Both these colours are neutral. Either of these colours will work throughout the house, ceiling, cornice, skirst, architraves, doors and window reveals. All in the one colour! This is the way design is at the moment, monochromatic colour schemes, with feature colours either by feature walls or use of furnishings. Every wall will take on a different look as the lighting changers per room or corner, depending on how many windows there are and the size of the windows. You won’t have to worry about these colours there will be very little change in their appearance as they are very light, this only happens with the darker shades. OK mek… I’ll give you my personal opinion, go the “White on White” you will need some warmth to the atmosphere in your home. The colour will look great with the beech flooring. It will still work with the industrial look you are aiming for, and the colours you will be using. The “Lexicon” will work also but will defiantly give you a cooler environment, not good for a home. Remember while trying to achieve the industrial feel, it is still your home, a place to come to, to unwind. This can’t happen in a cold environment! I hope this has helped you, any more questions I’ll be glade to answer. How far away are you from building? Or what stage are you at? Have you chosen your kitchen yet? The kitchen and bathrooms will be what you need to get right, to pull through the industrial look. Not signed the contract yet, the site still needs to be cleaned so I don't think we'll start this year... I haven't chosen the kitchen and bathrooms yet, looking all the time, clear ideas of what sort of thing I want, just hoping I can pull it all together and work well with cabinet maker... Not even sure of the colour of kitchen, but I don't have much choice do I... Re: White walls 5Nov 07, 2006 8:13 pm Mek, I know industrial kitchens are all stainless. But I don’t think you want to go that way.
However you could do an all white kitchen… tops either with a Corrian, Hi-Max or a white Quartz. Chrome appliances, chrome door handles in the long version and cabinets that are raised off the floor on square chrome legs, no kick boards. Brushed stainless splashbacks. The all white will look pretty neat with beech flooring! Remember to keep everything square and stream lined. Basic and plain, but very sophisticated! The builder is not crash hot about stainless steel benchtop although that's what I would want. I was thinking about an all white kitchen too (the only negative being I have a 5 year old daughter who loooooves being messy). I was thinking no handles though and horizontal look. Integrated appliances and black cooktop (only because I hate cleaning stainless steel). Glass splashback.
For bathrooms, square semi-recessed basins, no vanity below, just a very thick bench, something different for storage - not sure yet. Maybe a "filing cabinet" on wheels? Re: White walls 7Nov 08, 2006 10:51 am (Maybe a "filing cabinet" on wheels?)
Better make sure it has a good locking device on the wheels. Or else that’s little sucker will roll all over the place on a tiled floor!! Not sure that’s a good idea…… Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: White walls 8Mar 31, 2007 6:13 pm Michelle Mek, Dulux “White on White” is a warm white; it has a yellow tint in it, Yellow being a warm colour. Hi Michelle, I could not help but reply to your message to Mek regarding Dulux Paint Colours. I am the Manager of a Dulux Trade Centre in Sydney, and I have a thorough knowledge Dulux Colours and Tinting procudure. You stateted that "white on white" was a warm colour because it had "yellow" tint in it, and Lexicon was cool because it had "blue" tint in it. The correct tints that are in "White on White" are "Blue, Red and Black" and Lexicon has just "Black" tint in it. I am not disputing your advise of the selection of colour to use but would appreciate you not giving out incorrect technical specifications about things that you not correctly trained about. Re: White walls 10Mar 31, 2007 9:21 pm Hi there Paul, good to see a professional in here from Dulux.
I guess it is a bit hard for you get a grasp of the broad pitcher here. I had been privately emailing Mek for over a month about ALL her home selections, NOT just her wall colours, so she knew where I was coming from. This post was for her to understand, I was not telling her WHAT TINTS where mixed in the colours, just basically what colour they would throw once on the walls. As a professional tinter I fully understand where you are coming from, as colour consultant I view thing differently to you and use a language that is easy for my clients to understand…..in this case the word tint! OK…possibly should have used another word….but MEK understood me! That’s what is important to me. I would also like to add here, if you look through all of my posts, I have only EVER mentioned DULUX paints. It is the only brand of paint I use. So thank you for the “pat on my back” (not) for being a professional of 13 years and mentioning Dulux, not Wattyl orTaubmans…… as I could have. Thanks for your input ….. She wasn't trying to say that she knew what tints were in the paint to make it the way it is, just trying to explain the 'look and 'feel' that could be achieved. Great as she might be, I don't think I've ever heard Michelle claim to be a paint chemist.
