Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 17, 2015 11:32 am Hi. Please help me choose a white colour to paint the acrylic rendered parts of our facade. The render wasn't sealed and is in need of a new paint job. The dark charcoal / blue part has started to peel away and needs repainting as well. The charcoal bit I was thinking Dulux Ticking grey. Im not sure what the original colour is on the white parts of facade but may have been a version of the Dulux Limed White. I personally don't like the pinkish hue it gives off. I want a more natural white that doesn't give off any blues or purples or pinks. Our roof, garage and window trims are all Surfmist. The bricks are Boral escura smooth brown. White cowra pebbles and charcoal pavers for landscaping. The driveway is a dark charcoal. Would surfmist for the render look okay? Any suggestions? You say acrylic rendered parts, but then you say the render wasn't sealed?? One does not seal acrylic render, one seals cementitious render. Are you saying the acrylic texture coat is peeling away from the sand/cement render? That looks to be a blueboard installation at the top there. Also with relation to colour, you realise you are saying you don't want any colour. If you don't want pink blues or purples, what do you want? perhaps just untinted white? What does "more of a natural white" mean? Surfmist has ochre and black (which is actually a very very very very dark blue) 3.5 shots of ochre and 3.25 shots of ochre per litre of standard white paint to be specific. If you look at the colour wheel you will notice those 2 tint colours are pretty much directly opposite each other, so its a pretty stable colour with not much of an undertone; green if anything. What is a version? Re: Which white to paint the exterior rendered part of my fa 4Sep 17, 2015 11:52 pm Im going to recommend you get a sample pot of dulux Dieskau 50% and paint it on a big piece of board. Re: Which white to paint the exterior rendered part of my fa 5Sep 18, 2015 11:01 am thanks for your reply. I guess its not render, but some kind of texture coating where the colour is mixed in. Its now trapping dirt as its quite porous and instead of redoing the coating im choosing to paint the surface. Back to the white dilemma. Im looking for a white that will match the existing elements of brown brick and surfmist finishes. I would prefer it not to be too bright or to give off any blueish or pinking hues. Ill have a look at the dieskau 50%. Re: Which white to paint the exterior rendered part of my fa 6Sep 18, 2015 6:18 pm Ok in that case, you do not want to go with standard exterior paint. What you have on the house now is a trowel on product by Dulux Acratex. You will NEED to go with a product called Acrashield matt, by Dulux Acratex, available only from Dulux trade centres. It is the 3rd coat of the recommended 3 coat system by Dulux Acratex, but literally no more than 5% of builders and plasterers do this step as it is possible to have the texture coat tinted and it looks good without the topcoat, however none of the system is guaranteed by dulux unless this 3rd coat is applied; for exactly the reason you are complaining about. The application of this Acrashield topcoat (which is an acrylic membrane) is intended to protect the entire surface coating system from oxidation, cracking (up to 300% elongation), fading, water penetration, and most importantly dirt build-up. If you cant already tell, I have been involved with Dulux for quite some time. It is a real shame that builders to not adhere to Dulux Groups warranty guidelines and choose to go the cheapest way, feeling that the saving of about 1000 dollars to them, is worth the customers dissatisfaction with the coating within 10 years. You can get your hands on a 2 litre sample pot of this membrane at your Dulux trade centre, just tell them that "you know they don't normally give them to retailers", but explain that you are planning on buying the actual product and probably about 30 litres of the stuff. You get 90 square meters to the drum (they only come in 15 litres) and you will require 2 coats for it to hold out the dirt. The application of this membrane will take away about 30% of the textured depth appearance, meaning the aggregate will stick out 1.2 mm rather than the current 1.8mm. Its worth it. This is not a sales pitch, I have no connection any more with the company; in fact I left the company after countless disagreements with managers. Their loss, I enjoy giving ppl the correct specifications, they didn't want to give me the time to do it Be sure to clean the entire surface as best as you can (ideally a light pressure wash) before you apply this, as the dirt that is in there now will turn into mould once covered and cause any type of topcoat to blister. The total cost of this will be between: $150 (single bucket at trade price if you are lucky, I doubt it) to $380 (two buckets at retail price) Dieskau, when viewed on a computer monitor mathematically calculated to RGB values from the actual paint tint formula, has roughly the same quantities or both Red Green and Blue, which indicates the colour is completely neutral, a to the eye appears a dirty white. Re: Which white to paint the exterior rendered part of my fa 8Sep 29, 2015 3:15 pm I scored a free 1 hour appointment with a colour designer through the dulux website. They recommended the following colours: White part of facade - Vanilla Quake Half or Palace Stone Dark part of facade - Timeless Grey or Domino Any opinions on this scheme? I like the Vanilla quake half and Timeless grey combo. I tried the Dieskau Half. I though it was still a bit too bright and didn't blend well with the Surfmist doors and window trims. Thanks mate, is there a standard off the shelf type breathable product I can apply DIY? Thanks 2 9423 Coming back to this....
