Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 29, 2015 1:21 pm So I'm going to paint our 4x2 house of 235 square meters and would like to know how many litres of sealer and top coat do I need without being ridiculous. Is there a formula based on wall height minus window size etc? ______________________ CELERBRATION HOMES The Lennox Re: How to work out how much paint is needed? 2Jun 30, 2015 8:59 pm there are 2 ways to do this, exact or rough. Rough = 4L of paint per bedroom, 6L per living room, 1L per hallway. Exact is as follows Standard wall height is 2.4 so if you have standard height walls just go and measure the width and depth of every room in ur house. formula is : (Widthx2) + (Depthx2) in m x 2.4m = room wall surface area. do this for each room, and simply forget the door and window openings. lets say we have a 3.7 x 2.7 bedroom one: (3.7x2 = 7.4) + (2.7x2 = 5.4) = 12.8 linear m x 2.4 = '30.7 sqm' for bedroom one coverage of sealer binder is 10 sqm/L depending on pourosity and paint is about 14sqm/L but 2 coats are required so make it 7 sqm/L. Sealer binder = 30.7/10 = 3 L Topcoat acrylic = 30.7/7 =4.4L Subtract one litre per room of both prepcoat and topcoat if you must for doors and windows. Do this for each room. Once finished, round up to nearest 10L, never leave yourself short by a small amount. Block of two storey townhouses requires painting on the roof.
