Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 18, 2015 2:48 pm I am at the stage where my builder needs us to make some decisions and I thought I was organised. A few people have said that having a darker roof isn't a great idea because of it fading, the heat in the house etc. I had chosen a Gully or Wallaby roof with Dune weatherboards and Surfmist windows. Now I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of an Evening Haze roof, an old Taubmans colour called Habitat for the weatherboards and Surfmist windows. Any suggestions on the colour of the weatherboards with an Evening Haze roof would also be great. Any opinions, experience with different coloured roofs, help I need to make a decision !!!!!!!! Thanks Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: Dark vs Light Roof 2Jun 18, 2015 11:23 pm Its not the darkness of the colour that is prone too fade, its the brightness. For example, any of the contemporary colours, will last longer than the classic range. There is more colour in the classic rang colours. You can go as dark as you like in the contemporary range and the fading will be 100% the same across all teh colours you might choose. Surfmist will simply look white against that evening haze, purely because it has the same tones just much less strength. Do not be fooled by it in the catalogue. You are looking at a chip against a white piece of paper. If you want it to have some colour in the weatherboards, try a dirtier heritage colour from dulux. Perhaps White Duck half strength. That is of course, if you go for 'evening haze' roof. Re: Dark vs Light Roof 3Jun 20, 2015 2:36 pm Thanks Rebuilder86 you have been very helpful. I think I might just stick to what I liked in the first place as I really prefer a darker roof and can't find a colour that I like as much as Wallaby, thanks again Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: Dark vs Light Roof 4Jun 20, 2015 3:06 pm We are doing a dark roof (Colorbond Monument) and wouldnt have it any other way lol. The Colorbond products are not going to fade but as rebuilder has noted they will go dull (not a bad thing if you ask me lol) One thing I would suggest though is don't skimp on insulation. We are getting the builders standard inclusions of ceiling batts and wall batts but we also added Anticon insulation blankets under the roof sheeting. I seriously doubt that with dual insulation that we will feel too much extra heat from the dark colours. Will also be nice and quiet during rain Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Dark vs Light Roof 5Jun 22, 2015 5:34 pm We went with Wallaby. I love it, looks great. Didn't even consider anything darker due to heat absorption. Good luck. Re: Dark vs Light Roof 7Jul 04, 2015 7:43 pm Sorry just saw this post. We chose Dulux Klute (went to the trade centre). This colour is found in their big colour book. We have wallaby Fascia's and gutters. Eaves are Dulux Lexicon.
