Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 29, 2008 11:55 am Ok didnt quite know where to put this, but as it is finishing off the space in our homes, I've put it here.
Please remember that storage is a passion of mine, and I have no training in this field, so all suggestions I make may not suit everyone. I have spent many hours drawing up WIR, pantry and laundry ideas for the house I was going to build. So if there is a room you need fitting out I'd love to give ideas. All I need are the dimensions, and the things that need to be stored. Oh how much fun this will be!! Paula Re: Storage ideas 2Jun 29, 2008 12:27 pm Sounds like a fabulous idea Paula. I am going to look forward to reading all the posts. Re: Storage ideas 3Jun 29, 2008 12:44 pm Hmmmm will be redoing a WIR soon......with plenty of shoes. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Storage ideas 4Jun 29, 2008 2:21 pm Hi Paula,
Cannot scan the plans yet so I will have to try and explain it to you. WIR's are on opposite sides of the passage way that leads into the bathroom. I will have the left hand side as there is more room. Dimensions... width... 2 metres length...just over 1 1/2 metres. Open, no door. I like the idea of a mirror at the end but not necessary. I dont have many clothes but I tend to use shelving alot for jumpers. need somewhere to put shoes up to 10 Costume jewellery Perfumes Handbags The rest is up to you... Mr B WIR...other side Just bloke stuff...He dosent have many suits or shoes...I dont know, leave it up to you to tell me what he needs. Dimensions are the same as mine but he has a long window at the end. Let me know if you need any other details...I am so totally clueless Mrs B Re: Storage ideas 6Jun 29, 2008 6:39 pm Mrs B Hi Paula, Cannot scan the plans yet so I will have to try and explain it to you. Thanks for letting me do this, all through dinner my mind was racing, and yes you will have a mirror at the end - very important IMO. Paula Re: Storage ideas 10Jun 29, 2008 8:30 pm Raz Your WIR robe ideas are just great. Really like how your jewellery stays neat and accessible the way you have set it up. I will really appreciate your help too. - Ideas for handbags and evening purses. They are so muddled at the moment its a panic when I looking for a matching bag. A few things to do here - If you have a shelf you can spare, you can put dividers in like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Keeps bags neat and tidy. Or another idea I had is to put thin shelves up that hold the bag front on...This is hard to discribe Ok here is a pic of my shoe rack, take the door off and see the shelves behind? If you placed your bags front on (like in the shop displays) they would not only look like a feature, but would be very practical as well, very easy to see and find. (Dont forget to colour code them!) the shelves would need to be a bit deeper and a little higher, you may need to use your imagination a bit. I have drawn you up some ideas - my scanner wont connect to my computer at the moment so I have taken pics with my mobile phone I will post or email these to you so you can get a better look Thought I'd give it a go trying to get it up here for others to see. Start with yours. 2x 1.5 Two rows of fittings 150cm long with mirror at the end. I know yours is slightly bigger than 150cm, so I would put the extra length in your drawers not your hanging. Left hand side as you enter. 2 x short hanging = 185cm in total 4 x 60cm drawers 4 x 60cm open shelves 1 x 150cm handbag rack 1 x 150cm long shelf Drawers 50cm deep, hanging shelves 40cm deep. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also you have 2 jewelry drawers that look like this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There is some shelving that will hold your perfume and more jewelry if the drawers arent enough. Paula Re: Storage ideas 12Jun 30, 2008 12:57 pm Paula - do you know if there are standard sizes for drawers, hanging rails? After 4 years - we're in! Re: Storage ideas 13Jun 30, 2008 1:15 pm Dear Paula,

A very, very happy Mrs B Re: Storage ideas 14Jun 30, 2008 4:22 pm Hi Paula,
Just a few more questions... How deep should the cabinets be made? Do you clothes hang out a bit? Where do you get those lovely clear perplex(sp) dividers for the shoes. What shops would you recommend that sell stuff for WIR etc...Howards Storage ? Mrs B Re: Storage ideas 15Jun 30, 2008 4:31 pm Mrs B Hi Paula, Just a few more questions... Where do you get those lovely clear perplex(sp) dividers for the shoes. What shops would you recommend that sell stuff for WIR etc...Howards Storage ? Mrs B I dont have a Howards Storage near me, so I cant comment on how the perform. Do you mean for the shoes or handbags?? Your cabinet maker should be able to do them. (If they say they cant they are just being lazy) As for the jewlery stands, freedom have a good range for earings, bracelets and necklaces. Cabinet maker will do the drawers for you. Working on Mr B's now - still cant get my computer to connect with the scanner. How deep should the cabinets be made? Do you clothes hang out a bit? Sorry Mrs B, didnt see this one. If you make the hanging depth at 40cm, it allowes you to reach the coathanger without scraping you knuckles. I have made your drawers and shelves at 50cm which will make your clothes 'fit' in so they wont be sticking out. If your more comfortable you can make the hanging shelf at 50cm also. Any deeper and it will eat into your walk space. stonecutter1309 Paula - do you know if there are standard sizes for drawers, hanging rails? No idea if they are 'standard' but the sizes I've quoted fit my clothes As for the drawers, you can make them any size you like. Paula Re: Storage ideas 18Jun 30, 2008 6:00 pm On to Mr B

Mr B has seen his WIR and already he is planning to do some of the more fiddly work himself. He is very hands on and probably can design the belt draw at work. Now I can rest easy. WIR done and I dont have to think about it...hooray Paula, you are a Champ Mrs B I would say both styles you have pictured are steel.
