Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 May 10, 2015 12:23 pm Hi everyone, After 72 emails, 3 meetings and numerous phone calls, we have nearly nailed down our plans with our designer for quoting. Yay! But I'm stuck with the choices for the exterior. Currently you can see on the plans it is Hardies Stria Cladding but I prefer the look of the Sycon Linea cladding so i would like to include that somehow. We have also got the axon cladding on the top bit of the garage. Also I need to consider the roof colour. I love the colours in this Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So what would look best...change all the cladding to the Linea cladding and have two different colours? Or have different cladding types on the top and bottom... say Axon on the ground floor and Linea on the top with the two colours? or the reverse? These are the two types of cladding next to each other... axon is the vertical, linea the horizontal with shadowing. I would love to have the sandstone blocks like above but I'm assuming that would be $$$. Plus hubby ain't sold on them. He is more traditional but I would like to have a house that's a little bit different to the norm. Any ideas? I'm thinking of employing Michelle from this forum to help me choose colours as although I have a good idea of what I want, I'm not confident on making selections when it comes down to the crunch!! Looking forward to your ideas! Re: Custom Build: Need help with exterior cladding choices 2May 10, 2015 7:47 pm I think go with a mix of cladding. Perhaps vertical on the top level, and horizontal on the bottom. I personally quite like the vertical cladding. You can see it on my house here: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Monument is a great dark colour ( my downpipes, window frames and roof ). I used organic for the rendered piers. I'd try to avoid the need of maintenance of upstairs cladding as much as possible, and it's my understanding that dark paints give more trouble than light ones. The rationale would be that the pigments fade more noticeably, and that the greater thermal cycling makes the surface more likely to crack. Re: Custom Build: Need help with exterior cladding choices 6May 12, 2015 11:46 am Thankyou for your responses. I do like the look of light on the top but I'm just worried about it showing more mould/dirt as we are quite shaded on that particular side. Will have a think... What about having two different types of cladding or should I keep it the same? I found this lovely brick and colour combo while out yesterday at an appointment.... of all places a police station! Below floor level to the ground I want to put brick facings /… 0 4478 6 55344 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34269 |
