Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 20, 2015 12:13 pm Just wondering what everyone's experience is with Dulux paint. I have specified Wattyl Fluffy to our painter to paint over our existing internal wall, he had the colour mixed in Dulux paint but it is taking him at least 4 - 5 coats to get a decent even coat. He had asked Dulux and several paint shops and they all said that it was the tint. Spoke to a friend of mine and he did not like Dulux when he was painting his place, and he could not paint the walls with 2 coats. He ended up having the colour mixed in Taurmans paint and did the rest of the walls in 2 coats. Hope you guys can give me some suggestions. Cheers! Re: Paint coverage with Dulux 2May 19, 2015 7:17 pm It all depends on what colour you are painting over. How thick you roll it on and what colour you are rolling over the top. If it is a dark grey and you are wanting to paint it white then of course it is going to be difficult. The painter should be able to provide you with the advice, i would be going back to him. Re: Paint coverage with Dulux 3May 25, 2015 8:47 pm i wish i had seen this earlier, hopefully im not too late. Wattyl fluffy is nearly white, so the solids in the paint will be at a minimum, so poor coverage generally. Dululx make many types of interior acrylic, so i will explain the process for all types. 1. Dulux wash n wear low sheen, flat and semi gloss This is without a doubt the highest quality toughest paint for the intieror and is a good choice for the homeowner. The byproduct of this durability, is the stickiness of the resin when being rolled on. This means the tradeoff of a hard finish is ease of application. Wash and wear is the most difficult to get a nice smooth even finish. You need a high quality lambswool roller with a 12 mm nap and you must be not painting like a tradesman, that is, taking time and care. 2 complete vertical strokes half overlapped then reload and so on. Using this technique you should get coverage over any existing ultra deep base colour. For extra bright colours, you must apply one coat of cheap acrylic sealer undercoat before 2 coats of wash and wear. 2. Dulux professional low sheen, flat and semi gloss Easier to apply and get a smooth finish but slightly less durable. Can be washed clean but any scrubbing action causes sheen spots. Great for tradesmen to get in and out quickly, impress the customer and make money! Its very opaque formula makes it come off the roller better with more thickness, meaning less coats. Application of this is best achieved with a large width synthetic/lambswool blend with 12mm nap on a yoke frame, not a standard roller frame. important that the paint tray is also of decent construction with deep grooves to grab on to the roller cover, as this paint is very slippery and powdery. 3. Dulux once No tradesmen will use this, and i wouldn't recommend it to a DIYer. Bit of a waste of a product line. Supposed to have superior coverage, but is simply a powdery mess and looks tacky. 4. Dulux Professional Enviro2 Flat, Matt and Low sheen Less paint smells, and more environmentally friendly. Some painters like to use this stuff as it is pretty easy to apply and customers never complain about smells. The downside, the coverage is terrible, and i wouldnt be surprised if this is what your painter is using for you. I often hear of cases where this product has been unable to cover feature walls with 3 coats. 5. Dulux wash n wear plus effectivly this is a single pack glue with colorant added. tough as nails, but youd almost have to spray it on with an airless sprayer to get a good result. Which of these has your painter used? It looks like Blacktown council allows up to a 6.0m wide driveway so just ask your builder to change the plans. If you are just in the planning stage then there is no… 6 3888 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
