Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 14, 2015 12:18 am After opinions / thoughts / suggestions... I am planning to theme our new house in simple Black and White. External White walls with Black roof, gutters, window frames and garage door. Internal Natural Porcelain tiles, White walls, White lower kitchen cabinets and Black bench tops and overhead cabinets. Bedrooms and stairs will have a premium grade black speckled carpet. My thoughts are that we can add colours with furniture, appliances and maybe a feature wall in certain rooms. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts / opinions / experiences / material suggestions? Inside And Out. 2Mar 14, 2015 12:42 am Love it! Such a simple colour scheme but can be so stunning. I don't think you even need too much colour to make it look good. Have you looked at Houzz? They have some great examples of black and white interiors. Also pinterest. viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 3Mar 14, 2015 12:56 am Haha, the old colonial houses in Singapore are called Black and Whites and they have the same colour scheme. They are awesome and as you say colour can be introduced. Go for it. http://meridian103.com/issue-14/made-in ... and-black/ Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 4Mar 14, 2015 7:25 am Have had some people tell me it will be too "clinical", and I guess it could appear that way but that's where you add other colours to punch out the features. At least.. that's what I am thinking lol. Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! I have been using the Home Ideas section of realestate.com.au site. Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 6Mar 14, 2015 9:12 am I'm aware of that site but keep forgetting about it for some reason! I should look at it again. I don't think it will look too clinical, a lot depends on how you furnish it. You can use both colour and texture to give it different layers of interest. And indoor plants too, like in that Singaporean house in mark's link. Wooden elements will also soften it. Our house will basically have a black and white color scheme with our dark tiles and light walls, so I may be a little bit biased I'm on the phone right now so don't have a link, but you can check out my selections on my blog. viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 7Mar 14, 2015 10:16 am Roomeat External White walls with Black roof, gutters, window frames and garage door. A Black roof ? ... aargh !!! unless you live in a cold climate, there's no way I'd have a black roof, as you would just heat up the whole house with it, and A/C costs will blow your power bill over the top. It might give you a 'look', but I'd only look at it and shake my head unable to understand why anyone would do it. What would make it worse is if tiles rather than colourbond, the tiles would stay hot radiating heat back in to the house for most of the night. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. That coupled with a couple of whirlybirds and vented eaves will actually keep most heat from even entering the roof space at all. Most builds these days even with light coloured roofs should include proper insulation blankets but costs have made it too expensive so they get left out in leu of std sarking which honestly... Does bugger all. Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 9Mar 14, 2015 7:43 pm There was a Clarendon display home in Parklea that had a very black and white design inside. I can see the appeal for some people but for me it felt too: stiff, clinical, specific etc Yeh.. I just didn't feel "at home" in there. It kind of felt like I was stepping into a black and white movie or newspaper article hehe.. I think what was missing, for me, was some feature walls or feature furniture with a bit of colour to offset the overly black and white layout of everything. Does bugger all. At least you are going colourbond, rather than tiled... you'll at least lose the heat quicker than tiles could ever do. Anticon plus ceiling batts is definately the way to go, even in my case with a surfmist colourbond roof with Sandstone Gold brickwork. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Worth every cent considering how much I hate tiles lol Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Black and White. Inside And Out. 13Mar 17, 2015 10:26 am Roomeat Yeah sad thing is that colorbond is a upgrade with most builders and is costing me a extra 5k. Worth every cent considering how much I hate tiles lol Funny part is that colourbond is cheaper than a tiled roof can be... weight of concrete tiles on a roof means the trusses have to built to take that extra weight. It appears that deals have been done with roofing tile companies to get good deals on tiles, where they may not have any deals with colourbond suppliers, and the simple fact that there's a lot of people who think colourbond roof = garden shed ... for me, I wouldn't have anything other than a colourbond roof.... both tiles and colourbond roofs get hot, but tiles hold that heat in for a lot longer time, and radiate that heat back in to the house (great for winter, not so good for summer). Inside And Out. 14Mar 17, 2015 1:59 pm We went with colourbond as it was a free optional upgrade but at the same time I have always preferred the look of colourbound roofs. It's all such a subjective experience.. so many things to choose and it's really easy to get lost in the ocean of choices. I'd suggest that anyone still in the early stages to go back over all their choices about a month after they've made them and ask themselves why they chose what they did.. I suggest you to use glazed Porcelain tiles with dark greyish touch, it will go perfect with the white walls. Re: Black and White. But in my view I'd go for white switches against a white wall - they're not really something I'd like to show off, I'd prefer them to 'blend in' if that makes sense? In the black and white house you linked to you can see they also chose white against the white walls (photos 6 and . Re: Black and White.
