Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 01, 2015 6:10 pm I'm considering using a feature tile that has a wavy texture on it for my bathroom walls, but am worried about potential additional cost in using a textured tile, and also if there will be any issues in mitring or edging because of the surface texture.
For example, something like this feature wall here: http://st.houzz.com/simgs/df711581015b221f_8-7017/contemporary-bathroom.jpg Can anyone provide any opinion here? Edit: Fixed broken link. Re: Using textured feature tiles 2Mar 01, 2015 7:40 pm We used a textured tile splashback in the kitchen(I know yours is bathroom but the costs should be the same I would think). The only extra charges we incurred were because the tile wasn't in the standard range and then because we wanted the edges rectified which adds to labour. The textured tile added no extra cost in regards to the texture. This is our splashback, hope it helps http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj551/emz763/imagejpg1_zpscb677e31.jpg Ps your link didn't work for me, not sure why Re: Using textured feature tiles 3Mar 01, 2015 8:39 pm Thanks Charlston, I fixed the link. Your kitchen looks beautiful. Just took a quick look at your thread too, your house looks gorgeous! Do your textured tiles have a matt finish? Re: Using textured feature tiles 4Mar 01, 2015 8:45 pm I have no idea about the cost but that is just gorgeous - both the bathroom you adore and charlstons kitchen! We saw tiles like that in the textured range at Italia Ceramincs when we picked ours. Love them! Thanks Trixee and becjarrettdalton, we love the splashback tile. Texture makes such a difference. Yes it's a Matt finish, hopefully it'll be easy to keep clean too. Re: Using textured feature tiles 6Mar 01, 2015 11:55 pm I'm a little bit worried about cleaning a matt finish, trying to find some info on it now... Re: Using textured feature tiles 7Mar 02, 2015 1:10 pm So most of my reading suggests that matte finishes aren't difficult to clean. I'm going to do a road test on my tile selections and see what happens. I'm going to do a road test on my tile selections and see what happens. Can't help you there because we haven't moved in and 'road tested' the tiles yet. For a splashback, I'm hoping they'll be easy to keep clean and less 'streaky' when wiped than a high gloss surface. But to be honest, I picked them cos it's pretty not because of how day they'll be to clean... Which I may live to regret. But I hope not!
