Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jan 18, 2015 10:51 am Hi all, We are building a side by side townhouse and have just been advised by our builder that the suspended staircase we really looked forward to having will now not be entirely suspended. Due to limited space, instead of having a plateau between ground and first floor, the staircase in that section will now be winding and will have to have a supporting pillar underneath. Our issue is with having the pillar - aesthetically its not a great look for a modern and new home, but we have no other option. We are therefore now considering how to hide this pillar cosmetically, so that essentially the staircase still appears suspended. The staircase guy recommended hiding the pillar with a wall of plaster under the staircase. Closing the pillar with wood has been a possibility we have also weighed up somewhat. Question is, what are the pros and cons of using either material (eg. durability, cracking, apperance, etc) and are there any other options we could consider? Thank you! Staircases and sausages. Should thou wish to keep thy palate sweet for sausages, avert thine eyes from their crafting. 14 4580 Not sure if that works? I was told the issue is the headspace clearance requirement on step 4. My builder is proposing shifting the beam 310mm towards the kitchen...I'm… 2 2525 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13830 |
