Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jul 29, 2014 1:40 pm I have a large timber Bi Fold and a timber stained sliding door that are now about three years old. I sealed them with Intergrain ultra clear when they were installed, and have re coated annually. I'm finding the Intergrain isn't preforming very well and fear i may eventually have to paint the exterior of them to protect from any further deterioration. Can anyone recommend a better performing exterior timber treatment? These two doors do cop a fair bit of weather. Re: Timber protection Painters Please? 2Jul 29, 2014 7:58 pm Hi sceen7, I'll give you my experience for what it's worth. We varnished our KDHW doors and windows with Quantum Nano tinted primer and Quantum Timbre Plus Vertical about 16 months ago. Most of it is still looking good apart from some of the north facing timber which is going to need a recoat when the weather turns warmer. That said, the north facing timber where I applied 4 coats of the Timbre Plus Vertical is still looking as good as new. On our Western Red Cedar I've used Sikkens (Cetol and Filter 7 Plus). None of that wood gets much sun exposure though so I'm not expecting to have to recoat it too soon. I've liked both these products though each seems to have its peculiarities. The Quantum is water-based so very easy to clean up and no fumes but you need to be careful applying it as it dries quickly and you can't brush over without it being obvious. The Sikkens is oil-based, messy to clean up but very easy to apply as it dries so slowly. It does seem to annoyingly bubble occasionally though and there are all sorts of theories as to why this happens. I've never used Intergrain so can't comment on its durability but, for sure, if you don't want to have to keep on maintaining the varnish, paint would give you a holiday for a while! Building Standards; Getting It Right! I found https://treenet.org/resource/tree-prote ... -it-right/ which states if tpz encroachment is greater than 30% then do not proceed. My question then is, is this… 1 18624 I'm in the same boat. Many many years ago the rear timber fence fell down & was replaced with colorbond.
