Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Jun 13, 2014 7:55 pm Hi experts & those with opinions, I have looked through this forum to see if I was reinventing a question and I can't seems to see a similar combination so here goes. My 1950's red brick single story is about to get a makeover and I am having trouble. I have recently built a large pergola/deck and had Colorbond gutters/downpipes in Gully and thought I would replace all my windows in the same colour and continue Gully colour on existing gutters. But no, I didn't do homework and Gully not available in windows so I am moving on from Gully for the windows. I don't mind using a different colour than Gully as the pergola can be repainted although the gutters are not really obvious so that is not an issue. I have a red terracotta roof that I am not re painting so stuck with that. WINDOWS: Dune? Woodland Grey? GUTTERS/DOWNPIPES: Gully? Woodland Grey? Dune? Jasper? RENDER: Dune? Surfmist? or Dulux in Hogsbristle or similar colour in other brands? OR SUGGESTIONS????? Welcome anything, I am usually decisive but am second guessing myself.... My thoughts at the moment are Gully for Gutters, fascia and down pipes, Dune for windows and render...... cheers Re: Render, Windows & Gutter colours 2Jun 13, 2014 8:01 pm Hi Staceyb - Welcome to the forum! Do you think you could read the link below and try and post a photo for me so I can see your façade? Let me know if you have problems with it......take your time, once you get it, its endless posting! viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1272 Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Render, Windows & Gutter colours 3Jun 14, 2014 12:58 pm Thanks Michelle for your reply, I look forward to your advice! I think this forum is great, looking forward to getting to know it! OK think I have figured out how to copy the link across, have 4 pics. The front is not wide and the front entrance is at the side, pictured. I obviously have to paint the wooden façade above the brick work - I would think that would be painted in the same colour as the brick render. There are two pics of the front/side entry area (don't mind the fish tank it doesn't usually live there!). I plan to re tile the entry area to match the new render even thinking of the new timber look tiles. The side photo also shows a glimpse of the pergola and you can see the Gully gutter really doesn't impact on the rest of the house. The pergola posts and beams are treated pine stained in merbau - not mission brown although that is how it looks but I am not re staining I just hope it will fade in time. If it matters, the deck is merbau hardwood. Keep going with the Gully Gutters and fascia. Just a question, why are you replacing your windows? I would love to see you keep them and paint pure gloss white. With these 2 colours it would look really classy. Take notice of where else I think you should use Gully. Funny just driving in the area this morning and saw a house with similar render colour and the gutters would have been woodland grey perhaps but they had white window frames which really complemented the white internal shutters which I plan to get for the front two windows (will leave the cedar venetians in the rest of the house as they are too good to replace, and I like them!) The windows will need to be restored, there is a little rot in some and some rattle. I also thought that replacing the windows with aluminium would add value to the house, or at least greater street appeal. Interested to hear your thoughts on that! So if I were to replace the windows, I have had quotes so I know I'm up for $16K app, would you stick with the Dune frame to blend in with the render or go with another colour... there are not many colours in the ranges I have seen that are similar to Gully. Or do I re think and go with white which was something I had never considered, or something similar to the Trend Silver Pearl. Whilst I am picking your brains here, what would you suggest for eaves? Thanks again! Re: Render, Windows & Gutter colours 6Jun 16, 2014 6:02 pm staceyb Thanks Michele, I'm glad to see I'm on the right track with colours. I'm not sure replacing lovely timber sash windows will add value to your home. The way the trend is now and I think will stay for a long time, people like old, not that boxy look you get with the new homes. By replacing your windows with aluminium you are creating a boxy look to your façade. Honestly, leave them, spend the money on repairing what you have. The final outcome will be worth it for you. I will look into restoration and really consider that option. I was so set on aluminium windows to modernise but I am very open to ideas and your curve ball has got me thinking. As for a garage door, alas no, I will be replacing the old flat roofed carport that has been pulled down with one that is pitched to flow with the roofline. The idea of white frames whatever way I go sound like they will lift the façade. When it is all done I will make sure I post some photos.
