Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 May 28, 2008 12:22 am Ok I'm trying to decide when to paint our double brick and white set plaster house. I was hoping to do most of it- living areas, hallways- before we move in, and I could do the rest in my own time. That's not the problem, I can close off the rooms because little kids and paint don't mix. But I know there is the issue with settling causing cracks that have to then be repaired and the paint fixed up. How bad could the cracks be? The mention of it from the builders is that it would only be very minor, but how do they know that.
So what should I do, wait till after the 3 month maintenance check? would that be enough time? I'm pretty sure the plaster has dried out enough now, it has been at least 3 months and it was a very hot summer here. I'm concerned though about using the bathrooms before sealing, so can i seal and leave the top coat til later? I've been told the sealer does smell a lot, so will this smell disappear? Can the plaster be stained if lived in before sealing? I'll be addressing a lot of this with the builder at handover, and with the very helpful guy in the paint shop, but if anyone has any experience with this type of build and paint, please do tell.. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 Thank you.
