Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Oct 05, 2013 10:13 am My partner and I have just bought our first home in western Sydney and are renovating the interiors. We are completely re-doing the bathroom and I am unsure about the colour scheme. The house is a 1930s weatherboard cottage, with fireplace, light timber floors, stained glass windows. Interior walls will be white and our furniture style is pretty scandi. I want the bathroom to have a light and airy feel and fit in well with the rest of the house. What do you guys think? Here's what I've picked out: Windows: louvre-style with frosted glass (and big!!) Vanity: 1.8m white wall-hung with Pure White Caesarstone benchtop, with two white bench-mount basins Bath: white free standing (http://www.renovationboys.com.au/shoppi ... gory_id=54) Shower: just a simple glass screen Toilet: back-to-wall Ego suite (http://www.highgrovebathrooms.com/index ... t&Itemid=1) Taps and mixers: silver, gooseneck styles And here's what I'm thinking for tiles: Wall: large matte white (up to about two thirds of the way up the wall, from there up it will be painted white) Floor: light grey Perlato Stone porcelain (http://www.tilecraftpenrith.com.au/PERLATO-6PERSTG) There will be natural accents around the room (timber ladder towel rack, taupe towels, wooden stool, and fresh flowers when I have guests to impress). But I'm worried about the white-on-white look - with both the toilet and the vanity right up against the wall. Has anyone tried white-on-white? I originally wanted to go with the Perlato Stone tiles on the wall with matte black on the floor but I was worried the look would be too industrial since the rest of the house is clearly more English cottage than converted warehouse. I am keen to hear any suggestions because the best my partner has been able to muster is "oh yeah that sounds great" - IN RESPONSE TO EVERY SUGGESTION! Terrible. Thanks guys! Re: Help me pick a bathroom colour scheme! 2Oct 06, 2013 8:43 am This subject came up over dinner last night, here's some that stick in my mind: -My auntie had her house built in 1955 with pink bath and handbasin, no bath. This was matched with black and pink tiles. This was unchanged for the whole time she was there (until mid 2012) -My grandfathers bathroom was a 1967 build (always reminds me his house cost $16000 new) in blue tiles from floor to 4'6" from the floor and polished white concrete floor. To this day it hasn't changed. White handbasin, white bath, shower curtain for the shower with a 2" drop into the shower. -I have a friend who is looking at a new house and came across a house with a purple bathroom. Could be a challenge after a big night on the turps me thinks. Best advice-from the comfort of your loungeroom, have a look at houses that are for sale and check their bathroom photos and go for a wander through display homes. Ask your friends and workmates what they have-whilst it may not be perfect, it'll give you a good idea on what you want. As for the response from your partner, this is what is known as the "safe answer"-yes, I also use it and it drives the wife mad Re: Help me pick a bathroom colour scheme! 3Oct 13, 2013 7:37 pm Hi, have you sorted your colour scheme yet? I think white on white is fine since you are using natural wood accents to warm it up. The other suggestion would be grey and white with a scandi blue wall paint. For inspiration, check out the Houzz site for some lovely white or grey cottage style bathrooms! Re: Help me pick a bathroom colour scheme! 4Dec 02, 2013 9:02 am Hi Treeseachanger - sorry for the belated reply. Yes we have settled on a colour scheme! (And bought everything, so I can't change my mind now.) It's all much the same as I originally envisioned - white wall-hung vanity against white wall tiles, white benchtops, white basins - except for the floor tiles, which our builder said were a bit too big to create the right 'fall'. We ended up going with small (10x10), very dark charcoal tiles on the floor. We encountered a minor disaster with the back wing of the house where the old laundry and bathroom were located - once we pulled the tiles off it became clear the underlying timber structure was rotten, so we had to demolish half the house and rebuild - and that threw all the tradies' schedules off, so our tiler is not going to get started in the bathroom till early January. But I'll post pics then Re: Help me pick a bathroom colour scheme! 5Dec 25, 2013 8:25 pm I'm no colour expert but do love the white schemes, except for the floor. Having lived in numerous houses due to my husband's profession, my abiding lesson is that white tiles on the floor never look good except for straight after cleaning. I think you will be grateful that you've gone with charcoal. You may still have a case, but your next step is to speak to a lawyer. 3 1616 I'm renovating - building a small extension at the back of the late Edwardian house. This is the first stage. Second stage of the renovation will be to replace roof on… 0 1085 All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern.
