Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 22, 2013 2:09 pm Hi everyone, Help! Need some guidance please with colours. Our house has tall ceilings (3m high) with very large windows in every room. When we first painted our house, we decided to paint the ceiling flat white, and the walls like a vanilla colour (I cannot track down the actual colour used - suffice to say it was Dulux ) What we have found is the colour is not right - there's not much warmth in it. So, we are a little stuck as to which way we need to go, whether we need to paint the walls a darker colour to bring some warmth back and to bring the room in together (if that makes sense), or if we need to go lighter, almost white. Our furniture is dark brown, the future kitchen (if I do not change my mind yet again) will be predominatly white (Perchant 2 pac satin doors, which caesarstone snow ice... or similar) with probably a white glass splashback (maybe there needs to be a bit of contrast but that is a different topic altogether). Which way do we go? lighter or darker? Thankyou Re: Dark or light paint colour for tall ceilings 2Aug 22, 2013 2:38 pm If the rooms are big and high ceilings I think going a warmer colour would make the rooms cosier, like dulux ecru or hog bristle, they allways go nice with white,I think too much white in a house can seem cold and clinical. Re: Dark or light paint colour for tall ceilings 3Aug 30, 2013 10:21 am If you flick through magazines and online you will find that white on white in on trend. And yes, can look clinical when furnished with ultra modern furniture. However, flick through a magazine like Queensland homes or something similar and its ALL about furnishings! The wall colour is not meant to be a feature and I certainly wouldn't go dark! Soft furnishings like rugs, cushions,, artworks, table runners, vases of (fake) flowers, I have some in my home that are made from onion fibre and (no they do not smell funny) feel incredibly realistic, all of these things bring warmth.
