Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Apr 21, 2008 4:57 pm Hi, wondering if anyone can give me some advice on exterior colour scheme as I am starting to doubt myself an its decision time. I am renovating a 1988 brick and tile single storey house with a 28 mtr frontage. I want to go for a contemporary look as much as I can but still run with the existing design: Since the photo was taken I have converted the 2 single garage doors to one large western red cedar door with a matching red cedar front door with stainless steel fittings. The house will be rendered shortly and I need to choose paint colour and window trim colour to match the existing terracotta clay roof. What do you think of colorbond dune colour as the exterior paint and alluminium doors and windows in anodic natural matt which is an interpon colour that looks like silver and anodised alluminium. The gutters are goning to be a dark burnt orange to match the roof and tie in with the cedar doors at the front of the house and I was going to use anodic natural matt as the facia or stick to the dune. Will the colorbond dune render colour match the terracotta roof and silver door frames? Your opinion would be appreciated. Much easier to get an idea then. Thanks! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 4Apr 22, 2008 11:51 am Have you got one without the tree in the middle of the photo????
And a bit closer shot? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 6Apr 22, 2008 7:22 pm Ok my thoughts on your house.
Externals Roof - Terracotta Gutters - Dune Fascia - Dune Downpipes - Dune Eaves - Dune ½ strength Masonry Walls Render - Dune Windows - Anodic Natural Matt Doors - Cedar Note – As you can see I have kept everything Dune, which is a very neutral colour and should work well with the Terracotta roof. You have Anodic Natural Matt for your windows….so are you replacing your windows?? Big job! If I was giving you an onsite consultation I would suggest you keep your windows the wall colour…..Dune. Why? Because it’s better to have them blend in with the surrounding colour, especially for your style of home. Terracotta, Dune and Cedar……all the colour you need for your home, it will look classy and tasteful, not overdone. If you have any questions as to my selections, feel free to ask. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 7Apr 22, 2008 8:10 pm Wow, thats food for thought. Ok I had planned on professionally painting 80% of doors and windows in anodic natural matt and adding on new sliders and windows to the back of the home in anodic natural matt. Two questions - do u think dune is a good match with anodic natural matt - when I rang interpon they said it is best matched with the colorbond colour shale grey but I don't think shale grey is warm enough for masonary render . Next question - what do u think its worth recoating the roof charcoal - and then going dune on everything and cedar garage and front door. Or, thirdly, do you think anodic natural matt , dune masonry and trimmings as u suggested and cedar with charcoal roof would be the best look. I guess I am trying to create a bit of a bali feel with a mixture of cedar, grey, charcoal and steel or metal and carry that thru to the backyard pool area as well.
Sometimes I think shale grey wouldn't be that dull if once windows were anodic and roof was charcoal. Am I getting carried away - what do u think? Is dune a nicer colour? I don't mind spending the money on roof restoration if its going to look better than terracotta. What do u think? Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 8Apr 22, 2008 8:19 pm Ok….since you would consider a new roof colour I would say Jasper.
Jasper and Dune work really well with each other and are very complementary! I know what you say about the Bali feel, I love the look myself. But by having the cedar you are nearly there. I still say keep the windows dune. By the Way Shale Grey is the old colour, and I cant remember which grey took its place!!! Any colour will go with the silver look windows if you decide to go that way, It would just be better if an old window blended in. What do you think? Ok I like Jasper but I haven't seen it in a tiled roof around here only colorbond so I dont know how it would look. I guess I am surrounded by charcoal make overs so I am use to that.
Is charcoal too heavy with dune doors and windows and dune masonary . What does dune look like from the inside? Is it neutral enough against white walls. Would it be too heavy looking if I had all the old doors and windows coated in dune and all the new doors and windows in real cedar. (cedar would be in the pool and entertaining area and is about the same cost) Would that all tie in ( I will also have the cedar on the garage , side gate and front door. Is that too heavy?) And would you vote the terracotta over the charcoal or do u think the charcoal will tie in better than the terracotta or have you seen a jasper coating on tile before. I love the colorbond version. Finally - will I regret the maintenance of cedar - some of the windows are facing west (very hot) I know I would regret looking at them because they look stunning. Your opinion is greatly appreciated. thanks for your time on this . Paula Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 12Apr 23, 2008 9:57 am Mandymoo…..Have you been to Bali?????
As nice as that house is, it really doesn’t represent a true Balinese theme. Now I know where you are getting the gunmetal greys from! That’s not a colour the Balinese would use……not colourful enough! I’m at work at the moment so I will have a look at your last questions a little later. As for a Jasper roof tile……looks the same as C/B……just tiles! It the colour you are after, not the style. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 13Apr 23, 2008 10:21 am Ok I guess my version of bali is a bit distorted - only 5 star hotels for this bali visitor. suppose you would call it a contemporary bali feel not traditional because I really like the simple modern finishes like stone and wood - no clutter. Do u think I could achieve this with my current choices.?
Look forward to hearing from u. Re: Colour scheme to match a terracotta roof and cedar doors 14Apr 23, 2008 10:23 am Mandymoo…some images for you.
I’ve been to Bali 3 times, as well as travelling around the world. My favourite place I would move to tomorrow …..is Italy. I just love it! BUT…..there is something about the Balinese style and lifestyle that pulls me to their designs and colours!!! I am working on some new looks for the front of my house at the moment as well. And like you I have an older home as well! But I’m not going to render my bricks. I will be watching your progress with interest and I’m very happy to help you along the way! I’m on holidays next week…..look out at home…….
