Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 16, 2013 7:00 pm Hello all experienced people, We are into the final straight of the reno of our 1927 Californian Bungalow and with the painting underway I'm wondering if the Porters "Ice" chosen for the interiors teamed with Dulux Vivid White for our archs, skirts, doors and ceilings is just a little too blue. Our house is distinct in its two parts, the front original house consisting of the three bedrooms, double entrance area and formal lounge. The front has its original Baltic pine wide boards, which we have opted to sand back and finish in a clear to lighten and remove traces of the yellow tones. The original doors, archs, skirts and panelled timber entrance area have all been painted by previous owners and we have continued with this look with all the timberwork repainted in Dulux vivid white. The central entrance leads through to the newer part of the house a 30 year old addition which we have gutted and reworked. This area houses the kitchen, laundry, family bathroom, study, family room and dining area. They are not large spaces however the positioning of bifolds and a large casement window puts a lot of eastern and northern light into the rooms. We have opted for Blackbutt flooring in the newer part owing to the hardiness and lightness of the timber. The kitchen bench top is a granite called vivid white ( however the slab we have chosen has a lot of grey running through it) for the splashback, we are using white oversized subway tiles with a charcoal grout, stainless appliances and the kitchen cabinetry is a two pack finish in Dulux lexicon ¼ strength. The aim was to have a colour we could use all the way through the house to create a calm , light feeling and enable us to incorporate our existing furniture and be individual enough to suit different genders. Whilst not a true Scandinavian pallet, in a perfect world we hoped to bring this simplicity into the house. We painted colour boards 1m x 1m and positioned them in the different lights and the colour on the walls appears to match the boards, however I'm surprised at how blue porters Ice actually is... Does the addition of furniture etc really change the affect of a colour? Is it better to go a bit darker ( ie Ice) to avoid the colour being washed out? Or are we headed for tears? We originally planned to use Porters Ice double strength in the back part of the house owing to the variation of light, however upon seeing the front completed in single strength. I'm more confused than ever. Happily welcome advice.
