Browse Forums Finishing Touch Re: Porter Davis external timber doors 2Jan 23, 2013 5:42 am Hi Pize Ours isn't a two in one product - no self-respecting painter would use that. You should have a stain, which you would have selected when you chose your other colours (Ours was a Solver stain, the colour was called "nutmeg") and then a clear sealer on top. The products they use aren't very good....we were pretty unhappy with the way they deteriorated in a very short time - our NW-facing French doors had to be re-finished after only 3 months. So we did our own research and chose different products altogether. We've redone our French doors and front windows by sanding and then re-staining with two coats of Intergrain's Natural Stain, then two coats of their Ultra Clear sealer. We also gave our bifold doors a couple of coats of the sealer - they haven't really weathered, as they're mostly under cover, but we can see the finish beginning to deteriorate. Laundry door is next.... A coat of clear sealer every year from now on should keep even the most exposed windows & doors in good nick. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12335 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated. Also thanks for the pointer on sheathing, thats me watching too many american youtube videos! 6 2796 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 |
