Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Dec 12, 2012 2:14 pm So I am starting to have thoughts about the feature wall in the lounge room / living area. Here is the plan : http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee473/MissNomie/House/FeatureWall.jpg The nook in the top right of the living area is going to be where we put our mocha suede modular couch and the floors will be bamboo (very similar to this: link). And the tv unit would go on the opposite wall. I'm just unsure about the feature wall. The two red highlighted walls are my possible options. We wanted to use dulux sea elephant as the feature colour (to match the couch). We are using half hog bristle for the main walls. If I go with the longer wall, I wonder if this is too much for one room? It will be the first wall guests see when they walk into the house from the entrance area. I think it would look nice behind the unit though. Maybe I could put canvas art or bookshelf on the other part of the wall? If I put it on the shorter wall, it's going to be hidden away behind the couch and will probably blend in the couch too much? I'm really unsure. I think I'd like it on the longer wall but from what I've seen feature walls are usually just in a nook. Any help would be appreciated. I'm open to ideas (that don't change the actual structure). Here is a pic of our friends place we were using as 'inspiration'. But their feature wall is just a small block of colour. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee473/MissNomie/House/FeatureWall2.jpg Build thread : /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60288 Re: Feature Wall Help! 2Dec 13, 2012 11:19 am Any body have any ideas or suggestions? Maybe examples of their chocolate feature walls? It's an odd huge space to walk into -- odd energy flow. How do you get into the kitchen and bedrooms, is there a door in that long wall you want to make a feature? I'm guessing between your pantry and benchtop where your hotplates are. Are you going to put any furniture along that wall in the front end? Without knowing anything of the above, I'm taking a stab to suggest summat ... 1. I personally wouldn't like to paint the whole long wall, yes I would think too much. 2. I too think the feature colour would look nice behind your 'unit' (lost behind the couch). 3. I'm imagining you painting sea elephant behind your TV unit from the back corner to the halfway mark of the house (where the middle of the roofline is). Then add decorative vertical timber slats coming in from the left and right (leaving an open space in the middle to walk through to your cozy nook). Check this blog page for some inspiration on how you can 'divide' that space with 'timber slats' or other means: http://www.elementsathome.com.au/2011/0 ... vides.html 4. Now to work out what to do with the front of your living area (the bit you 'fall into). I'm finding it really odd ... did you see a home like that and if so, how was it used or what do you have in mind? A library might be cool. hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking? One could argue that if none of the displays or… 3 2448 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5108 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2627 |
