Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Dec 07, 2012 4:34 pm I know there are a lot of topics about paint colours, however, I am very excited that we are building our first home in The Vines, but I'm stressing about paint colours! We are spending a lot of money on putting Ebony Bamboo floors throughout. I love them and I hope they work the way I want them too. The doors, door frames and thick lambs tongue skirting will all be Dulux Antique White USA. The ceilings are wa white. We have porcelain vinyl kitchen cupboards, with black granite tops and white wall tiles. The wet areas have parchment laminate cupboards, French Noughat essa stone tops, with white wall tiles and grey/green floor tiles. The house is south facing, and we have a large alfresco extending across the back, with minimal windows on the east and west sides, so the house won't be flooded with light. To ensure its not too dark, I will have transparent roller blinds thought, apart from the theatre (block out) and the front rooms will have shutters. With regards to the wall colour, i want a neutral throughout and I'm looking to achieve a homely look, that isn't too dark or too light. I also want a bit of a contrast to the door/trim. So I was origanlly thinking Hob Bristle Half, but thought it might be too dark, and so was thinking about HB quarter, but now I'm wondering if it is too matching to Antique White USA? So then I was thinking about china white or grand piano, or even Taubmans Pebble Bay(which is darker and a bit greyer). Or maybe not contrasting? Maybe I should go Antique white USA on the walls? I'm interested to know what people think will look great with the ebony floors, considering all of the above! I'm also interested in what you think of my render colour choice out the front, because I'm starting to think I made a mistake (I haven't seen it yet, as it's not complete) - we have built a red brick home (austral Leonora), and there is render across the bottom front of the elevation under the windows. The roof, gutters, facia, down pipes, gables, verandah posts and garage door are all Surfmist. We have pearl window frames and the front door is diamond lead light gloss black. I chose dulux Sago half for the render and gable Infills - I'm just worried now that it's going to look too pink?! Opinions / ideas - hit me people! Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 2Dec 07, 2012 10:48 pm Hi, Ebony flooring is great and most colours will go with it. To select the right colour you have to also consider the furniture colours in the rooms. Selecting a colour that is too white will make it look very stark. I usually have the wall tiles (computer) colour matched and it works well; the wall colour has to work with your bench tops and cabinetry as well. Very often I see wall tiles and wall colours with the wrong toning. Try to use water based paint on every surface otherwise the paint will turn yellow. Your render colour is slightly violet. In the sun it will look a lot more washed out however with the changing weather circumstances it will look different at different times of the day. If not too late, the only way you can tell for sure is painting up a 1m x 1m cardboard sample and holding it against the area you want to paint and look at it at the different times of the day. Good luck……. Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 3Dec 08, 2012 12:22 am Hi, the best way to decide on your walls is to get a few sample pots and paint a 1m squ of cardboard as Eco said. The different lights during the day will give the same paint a different look, as will your artificial lighting. My first suggestion would be to go with the antique white usa you have already used, but a different strength for the walls. It goes really well with browns as you know, and isn't too stark or too warm. Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 4Dec 09, 2012 9:55 am Thank you, I'll have to give the samples a try. Ill also have to look into the gloss being used by the builder, because I've never heard of the yellowing thing before. With regards to the interior - I'm leaning towards Stowe White or maybe China white...... But still don't really know - neutrals are hard! Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 5Dec 09, 2012 3:12 pm China white was my second suggestion. Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 6Dec 12, 2012 10:50 pm Someone in the know has suggested Grand Piano Half - I'm pleased because its very similar to what we were thinking, so I think we'll get a sample and if it looks good we'll run with it! Thanks all! Re: HELP! What colour wall paint with Ebony Bamboo Floors! 7Dec 13, 2012 9:50 am A good choice, less warm toned than Hog's bristle. Beige royal is another lovely neutral you might like to check out. Sorry, don't know costs, but there are a couple of very important principles you need to get right (and now) .... (1) never agree to any "upgrade" unless you first know… 5 6850 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 A Sabco spin mop, minimal moisture, not very regularly. I was told these hybrids are water resistant 🤷♀️ 2 7644 |
