Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 08, 2012 4:23 pm This is my first post after many months of reading and learning. We have just renovated our house, which has included an extension and remodelling to the existing rooms. We are finally up to choosing paint colours. I am looking for a white colour that will go well in our open plan room which contains our white kitchen.(We dont have a splashback colour at this stage but are hoping to have glass, will depend on budget) It is quite a dark room, we will maybe need to look at getting a skylight at some stage. In a dark room, what is a good white to choose? (I have sample pots or half and quarter hogs bristle which we will try over the weekend. I'm not sure if I want something whiter though?) Also we have put on a lounge room which will have one feature wall in wall paper, it is by laura ashley, called isodore cranberry linen. http://www.lauraashley.com/invt/3399518 What is the best way to choose a paint to go with this for the other 3 walls? (The background is kind of ivory I guess but the linen flowers are white. We have sydney cove cornice and higher skirting boards. I guess I am after suggestions for the 3 walls, ceiling and trims. The floor will be timber look (havent chosen yet, again will depend on budget). The main furniture item will be a cranberry coloured sofa, something like this, http://mto.lauraashley.com/furniture/so ... eater-sofa Looking forward to hearing your suggestions, Leanne Re: More white paint questions 2Nov 08, 2012 6:32 pm Hi Leanne, welcome to the forum! Is the lounge and wallpaper going in the same open plan room as the kitchen? They are the ones with the 4 vertical glass panels. Thanks, I hope that helps you picture the space. Leanne Re: More white paint questions 4Nov 08, 2012 8:19 pm So this is a formal space/room? From what I have read online, is it right that the paint colour should be a lighter shade than the wallpaper colour, rather than darker? I definitely like the look of the quarter light rice. Ceiling, cornincing and skirting wise would you be suggesting white or? In terms of the open plan room (that the lounge room attaches onto, but is separate from), do you have any suggestions? I am after a white which will work in a slightly dark room.... (it would be a bonus if it would also suit our bedrooms/hallway/bathrooms etc as well - I am hopeless at choosing paint) Thanks so much for your help, Leanne Re: More white paint questions 12Nov 13, 2012 4:42 am I chose the Light Rice for the lounge space, and the Grey Pebble as the white you want, its a nice light white without being stark. Ceiling , cornice, skirts - white. Not sure about rules with wallpaper, wallpaper is a feature on it own but it would be good to have a similar colour on other walls to match at least one colour in the wall paper to tie it all together. I am going to get the sample pots this morning and let you know how I go. I am hoping the light rice will be a really good match.
