Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 31, 2012 9:57 pm I would appreciate colour suggestions for the 1- lower render 2 - Front pillars and entry 3 - Down pipes 4 - Patio railings and center of entry Roof - Ironstone Gutters - Ironstone Fascia - Surfmist Windows - Surfmist Eaves - Surfmist Bricks Austral Symmetry - Ashphalt Metal slats will be added between the pillars on the entry where the temporary light is. This will be the same colour and material as the patio railings. (Stairs are missing in the entry) Thanks in advance for helping a colour challenged person. http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/tt168/aussieledlights/House/DSC05570.jpg I was considering Dune for the lower render. Down pipes colour match to bricks. Pillars No idea Colour for patio railings No idea The photo is at a bad angle, the entry door is 1200 Merbau I will try to remember to take a better image. Re: Help with render, downpipe and entry colours 2Aug 31, 2012 11:13 pm Zenon I was considering Dune for the lower render. Down pipes colour match to bricks. Agree with this so far. Due to the ironstone & surfmist combo, I think it pushes you towards cool and neutral colours for other features such as the pillars and railings. Are the steps going to be paved? I should have also mentioned the steps and front patio area, this colour also needs to be sorted. It may be a good idea to paint the lower render Dune and the down pipes then take new images. I am tired of looking around at other homes for ideas. Open to sugestions Re: Help with render, downpipe and entry colours 4Sep 02, 2012 5:56 pm Hi, You already have 4 colours on your house being Ironstone, Surfmist, brick colour and concrete colour or the colour you will be adding to your porch and stairs. I would be careful with adding Dune as it has a pink undertone. I hope you’re a visual person and can identify below house with your house. http://www.houzz.com/carlifornian-bungalow/p/48 It is the fourth picture from the top. This house has excellent colour proportion. Have your metal work painted or powder coated Ironstone Paint all uprights Surfmist. Lower render; I would take a spare brick to the paint shop and have it colour matched as closely as possible. You may or may not like the bullnose coping and the white stripe however I think It will turn a potentially dull colour scheme into a very nice house. Paint your gable board (currently white) with the brick colour. Be very careful with the fence selection, don’t pick a pool fence. I would go with a white (Surfmist) fence. Your stairs could be brick or timber (Merbau?). I would not go for tiles on the concrete otherwise the house will look like a fifties bungalow. Try to blend the downpipes into the walls there are against. Cheers PS Re: Help with render, downpipe and entry colours 5Sep 02, 2012 9:22 pm EcoFriendly Hi, You already have 4 colours on your house being Ironstone, Surfmist, brick colour and concrete colour or the colour you will be adding to your porch and stairs. I would be careful with adding Dune as it has a pink undertone. Hi PS, Ironic you said the Dune has a pink under tone, I painted the front with Dune today and it looks like old primer. Not nice at all. EcoFriendly I hope you’re a visual person and can identify below house with your house. http://www.houzz.com/carlifornian-bungalow/p/48 It is the fourth picture from the top. This house has excellent colour proportion. I think the link was incorrect. EcoFriendly Have your metal work painted or powder coated Ironstone Are you referring to the gable fascia and capping on the entry? Is this what you mean by bullnose? EcoFriendly Paint all uprights Surfmist. I was considering this as well. EcoFriendly Lower render; I would take a spare brick to the paint shop and have it colour matched as closely as possible. You may or may not like the bullnose coping and the white stripe however I think It will turn a potentially dull colour scheme into a very nice house. I have a couple of liters colour matched to the bricks to try for a visual on the lower render, what do you think of painting the lower render the colour of the brick mortar? Could that also work? I guess the bullnose is the barge capping and fascia up top of the gable, easy to colour change. EcoFriendly Paint your gable board (currently white) with the brick colour. The front gable is currently painted Surfmist. Also, hard to see in image but the pillars continue to the top of the gable eave. My intention was to paint the pillars surfmist up to the gable and you are suggesting painting in between brick colour? EcoFriendly Be very careful with the fence selection, don’t pick a pool fence. I would go with a white (Surfmist) fence. Surfmist for the hand railings/fence should look good, was also considering stainless cable. EcoFriendly Your stairs could be brick or timber (Merbau?). I would not go for tiles on the concrete otherwise the house will look like a fifties bungalow. My original idea was Merbau treads, what do you mean by brick? Brick sized tiles and pattern on the steps? EcoFriendly Try to blend the downpipes into the walls there are against. Cheers PS Good idea Re: Help with render, downpipe and entry colours 6Sep 03, 2012 3:34 pm Hi, Without the below picture my whole description wouldn’t have made any sense to you. Try the link again. It is the last picture on that page. http://www.houzz.com/californian-bungalow/p/64 The blue strip on the bottom is what I am referring to as bullnose coping (in blue); the material can be ceramic, hardwood timber, pre-fab foam or it can be painted on (Ironstone) followed by the white strip (Surfmist) followed by your brick colour. Not knowing exactly your metal work selection (on gable) painting everything in Surfmist might be too large in proportion; it really depends on the metal work. By just painting the uprights/pillars white it will look uniform with the others and a white fence will round it off nicely. When using a lot of grey you should have a colour that lifts up the colour scheme and white or in this case Surfmist will do it nicely. I like the fence shown on the above houzz picture. I would rethink the stainless steel wiring. As far as the stairs are concerned they can be built out of any type of material, bricks are just one of them. I would go timber. I find that “standard” stairs are often not deep enough hence scuff marks on shoe heels and toes; try to have the tread (depth of stairs) bigger than standard. Cheers PS Building Standards; Getting It Right! It's all good. You can get both wye piece and the coupling with or without thread. The cost difference is negligible and means the plumber only has to carry the single… 1 4853 Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6328 |
