Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 22, 2012 3:53 pm Hi Everyone, I'm new to this and need help with choosing our external colours: At present our roof, fascia, and gutters are ironstone. Garage door is a timber look (cedar) We have hebel on the front exterior & right side, large panels of matrix on the left side & back and stria cladding on top. The front window and door will be a similar colour to match in with the garage door, all other doors/windows are anodised steel. It would help if i attached a picture but not sure how? Re: Help with external colours? 2Aug 22, 2012 4:39 pm see how you go with these directions on how to post a photo. We like dune and grey tones. to match the ironstone roof. I'm also unsure what to do with the matrix cladding down the side and back. To have a contrast backing board or is this too much? Re: Help with external colours? 5Aug 27, 2012 6:36 pm Here are my 2 cents worth…….. I am sure you’re aware with Ironstone being a very dark colour will heat the roof a lot more than a lighter colour however if you have your heart set on it………. Before you can select your colours you need to decide what type of cladding/finishes to put where. The front elevation is really not enough to get the whole picture. You may be able to move the matrix cladding from the side to the front. Where you’re putting the Hebel block I assume you will render? I would have the garage door and all the render the same colour (i.e. Dune) The stria cladding is a wide board finish and should fit in with a wide board garage door (colour i.e Dune not cedar). It is difficult to see if the portico is supported by a wall or an upright? If it is a wall I would matrix clad the wall and wrap the matrix clad right around towards the entrance door. The matrix cladding and front door could have a medium blue/grey colour. The window is slightly out of proportion and having a cedar frame will draw even more attention to that fact. The window wall could also be rendered in Dune. Make sure cladding/finishes & colours are wrapped around the corner, nothing looks worse than stopping the cladding/finishes & colours on a corner. Cheers PS Re: Help with external colours? 6Aug 28, 2012 10:15 am Thanks a lot for your reply.....it's given me some more ideas and things to think about! The roof is already done in Ironstone so that can't be changed and the garage door is already cedar so neither can that. The front window size can be changed as it hasn't been ordered yet, do you think it's too big? The house is acutally quite large and slopes down to be 2 story at the back. I'll have to post an updated photo. Thanks for your comments! Re: Help with external colours? 7Aug 28, 2012 6:05 pm update photo would be good.... Check out below link for inspiration. http://www.trendwindows.com.au/WRCAwning.html I think the current window is too small; however it depends on the following: What the room is used for? Do you have enough wall space in the room? Do you mind the morning sun? If you intend to have a walkway around the house, awning windows can be dangerous as they stick out; double hung windows could be another solution. Seeing you’re having the garage door in cedar leave the window frame in cedar also. As far as the colour scheme is concerned, a warm white render would look spectacular with cedar. Cheers PS The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1616 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated.
