Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Aug 13, 2012 11:17 pm Hi everyone, My darling has insisted that we use some pine barstools (which he was given by a friend ) in our new build, a modern/country style. I need to give the stools a facelift, painting them a solid colour to make them tolerable, they are a horrible yellowish pine. They have a back. What colour to paint the bar stools, white, charcoal, black? Or something else entirely? Kitchen top: Diamondgloss Laminex stipple seal benchtops or similar essastone (thinking new sable luxe) Doors: Formica warm white doors, black wrought iron knobs. Kicks: Peruvian clay. Floor is tile in similar neutral porcelain. I am thinking of Dulux Russian Toffee for walls in kitchen, the window frames are soft dark grey and my pendants are black wrought iron with swirl white alabaster glass. Kitchen overlooks the living, which will have walnut wood furniture, some beams and a "planked" ceiling and my couches are sage green/light green pattern, also a green feature wall. There are touches of faded turkey red, beige and pale gold in the rug. There will be lots of natural light in the kitchen and living (all north facing). Any suggestions/comments appreciated!! Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 2Aug 14, 2012 12:47 pm I will preface this by saying I am no interior decorating expert but shall put my 2 cents worth in anyway I would think go white if you want the stools to blend in to the kitchen area but if you want to make them a feature go for a darker colour. Have a look at Eiffel's thread here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657&start=380 (hope she doesn't mine me sharing!) which has white bar stools with a white kitchen. Hope that helps Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 3Aug 14, 2012 10:57 pm Can't believe you posted the link to the Ikea barstools I originally envisaged buying for my kitchen!! I was going to get them in the natural wood finish though. That is my dilemma- to blend or to feature? That is the question!! White is safe. But if darker, which colour? Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 4Aug 14, 2012 11:36 pm Beautiful colours, TSC New sable luxe is GORGEOUS. If we had the money to go with Essastone, that was our number one choice. Do the stools have a seat pad or a cushion on them at all? I would have said go a bit darker brown than the new sable luxe, and then a greenish cushion to match your feature wall. Are you having a feature kitchen colour? Eg. coloured tea towels or appliances? Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 5Aug 15, 2012 11:33 am daveandally1 Beautiful colours, TSC New sable luxe is GORGEOUS. I think you might have seen the type with moulded backrest as well? Ugh. Yes, when you said darker brown that's what I was thinking of- antique finish (Ingolf) Ikea bar stool. I could post a pic but it's a tiny icon so not much help... No, I'm keeping the kitchen pretty neutral except for green tea towels from Target, the bright green. Also I have my rooster tile! I LOVE it! It's handpainted, looks a bit washed out on monitor because the roosters are shiny, not the background. It's the only feature on white tile splashback, and will have an ivory twist border: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My appliances are all SS except for my microwave which will be hidden away in appliance cupboard (it's white.) I like white appliances as well as SS but since we are going to move again we bought SS a year ago when our nearly 30 yrs double door frost free finally died, the dealer said SS travelled better (chips are more noticeable with white). PS don't know if we can afford Essastone either...fingers crossed Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 6Aug 15, 2012 2:56 pm Ahhh. Even if essastone is out of the budget, the DG Laminex Stipple Seal is amazing too We have it in our bathrooms and it looks fantastic with the peruvian clay as well! Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 7Aug 16, 2012 11:00 pm Yes I admired them, it is a really lovely colour and I love the gloss finish... So if no essastone I will "make do" with Stipple seal Re: Help me choose paint colour for horrible barstools pleas 8Aug 22, 2012 5:23 pm Treeseachanger Can't believe you posted the link to the Ikea barstools I originally envisaged buying for my kitchen!! What if you used the chicken tile as inspiration for your paint colour for the bar stools.? You could go the darker feather colour, it looks sludgy green on screen (beautiful). Just a thought but I'm no interior decorator. I'm in the process of decorating my house. Very exciting . Thankyou so much ๐ I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK ๐ 2 7143 Thank you @.
