Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 May 15, 2012 9:05 pm Hi there, Just wondering if people really are moving away from gloss for woodwork (skirting, architraves and doors)? 2 shops have told me this now. And what is the go for walls these days - some sort of satin/sheen finish or plain matt? THANKS! I had no idea there were so many finish options, let alone colours! I think all the walls where low sheen, we also used two colors, seems that's not done so much anymore either 2 Re: Which paint for which surface? 6May 16, 2012 2:57 pm Hi Stormjr - thanks! Do you mean 2 colours for walls and woodwork - or 2 colours for walls? Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Which paint for which surface? 7May 16, 2012 3:40 pm stormjr,,does semi have a different shine or is it same sheen as your walls low sheen?.l still want to go semi gloss(oil base) any pics? I think that there is a difference in the shine level between the two 2 Re: Which paint for which surface? 11Jun 01, 2012 3:02 pm Any acrylic enamels (water-based enamels) will not yellow over time like solvent/oil based enamels.
Dulux Aquanamel, Solver Aqua trim, Haymes Ultratrim, Resene Enamacryl are just a few. Acrylic enamels are more user friendly being water clean up, not turps, etc. I try to stay away from oil-based enamels these days unless I need them as they have a tendency to yellow in dark areas. A good quality high-gloss acrylic enamel will come within 90% of the gloss of a high-gloss oil-based enamel. As always the level of gloss depends on the quality of paint. Resene and Haymes semi-gloss acrylic enamel has a better finish than some brands high-gloss! There is a huge difference between semi-gloss trim and low sheen walls. 90% of homes that I repaint now are low/mid sheen walls and semi-gloss trim. It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard. At least they are not weep holes. Are you in a high intensity rainfall region?
