Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 22, 2012 7:39 pm We're getting ready to paint this weekend. We have fresh plasterboard everywhere and are going to go around and mask everything and spray to get it all done super quick and hopefully nicely. Just a quick question though - the plasterers were really dusty and I have to go through and sweep and vacuum everywhere first. There is a dusty film on the walls as well - am I better off just vacuuming the walls as well as the floor or can I use a lightly damp cloth to wipe it all down? Any better suggestions? I have a lot of walls to do. Re: How to wipe down new gyprock for painting? Or just vacu 2Mar 22, 2012 8:09 pm I might be totally wrong here but doesn't the plasterboard need to be sealed before it gets painted? Our painter is getting ready to seal our place now. The paint we're using has a built in sealer and primer, but even so you wouldn't want to paint over dust, it's not going to stick properly is it? - hence the question of how best to clean the walls. Thanks Re: How to wipe down new gyprock for painting? Or just vacu 4Mar 23, 2012 6:59 am Just go over it with a soft broom, that will get off more than enough. Just be wiery of those gimick paints with everything built in, if they were so good and cost effective every builder would have them on there specs. I've seen a couple try what they call the 2 coat system and most needed a 3rd coat. If you haven't already, go to a paint shop not a hardware and see if you can talk to the paint rep not the sales person. Re: How to wipe down new gyprock for painting? Or just vacu 5Mar 23, 2012 8:33 am Thanks for the thoughts. It was a paint shop that put me onto it - Zissner Allcoat. We plan on spraying everywhere now to protect it, walls and ceiling and then going over the walls individually at some point within the next few months with different colours etc. 6 11152 How long is a "long period"? For a few weeks, it should be ok. It also depends on the area you live in...I would let your neighbours know that you will be away too and… 1 28577 |
