Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 02, 2008 12:38 am Will someone please enlighten me as to which paint brands are best value and why? I went to Bunnings to have a look at colours and paint but there are too many paint brands to choose from. I'm a first homeowner with no experience with home renovations. Please help! Thanks! Re: What paint brand? 3Mar 02, 2008 8:40 am We have painted many times, but the one we keep going back to is Taubmans Living Proof Silk. It's not flat, but has an ever so slight sheen making it easier to keep clean (especially with young kids who used to draw or throw food on the walls...). It's a great paint to work with as well, and in our new house we have upgraded to have 3 coats on our walls. We have used awful paint factory paint, Dulux, and Bristol, but Taubmans, we found, to be far superior. Not sure if it's the best vaue for money, but you don't want cheap paint where you have to re do it every 3 years.
As for exterior, I never go past Wattyl Solarguard...great stuff! I personally wouldn't get my paint from Bunnings. There is a trade place near us which will give you a much better deal...and they know exactly what they are talking about! Find the paint you want and shop around. The key to a great lasting smooth paint finish is all in the preparation of the walls before you paint. A tedious job, but well worth the effort. Good luck!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I use Dulux......Taubmans second on my list! It’s important to buy a good brand.....NOT A CHEAP one. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What paint brand? 7Mar 12, 2008 2:15 pm I need to shop elsewhere!!!!

A few friends have recommended Solver and think it is better, but that doesnt seem to be general opinion on the forum.
We can choose either Dulux or Solver; not sure which one we will go with now . Re: What paint brand? 10Mar 12, 2008 2:28 pm ewan I've spent over $20,000 with Dulux in the last 6 months. YEP......that'll get it for you!!!! My last painter used Solver……I have to say I was very impressed!!!!! As a matter of fact, he is now my preferred painter, and when I use him, he will ONLY use Solver! Solver did a perfect match of my Dulux colours as well. I was very happy with the result! Stay away from Bunnings, colours tend to be mismatched from batch to batch due to manual colour tinting. I'm lucky, Dulux paint centre is 5 minutes away and they have great computer tinting facilities and are very helpful. Also a fan of wattyl solagard for outside...... Michelle, now not picking on you or anything , but in a previous thread this is what you said "I have however seen Solva…..It wont be on my recommendation list. " http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=3555 Now assuming "Solva" is simply a typo of Solver, is this the case? Or is it more the painter rather than the paint that determines the quality of finish? Re: What paint brand? 15Mar 12, 2008 2:41 pm Excellent dna!!!!!
Your right…I was hoping no one would remember!!!!! I would never use Solver! I would not even recommend it to my clients. But since I desperately needed a painter at xmas time and took whoever I could get…..I had to use a painter that would use NOTHING other than Solver. I have to say….I was beside myself with worry about how the job would turn out! BUT……he has changed my mind, this is a painted that knows what he is doing, and I was most impressed. BUT!!!! I’m still a Dulux fan!! We'll be using Taubmans. After 4 years - we're in! Re: What paint brand? 17Mar 12, 2008 3:06 pm stonecutter1309……I think Taubmans have a brighter selection of colours for feature walls.
They are much the same. I usually recommend a Dulux colour….then the painter gets that colour in the Taubmans base! No problem! We've got Solver and Dulux outlets very close by. I'm impressed with the Solver colour Beaver ... has an umber base and doesn't reflect any purple in the grey. Do you know this colour Michelle?? Considering this colour for the external render. I saw a house colour that I really liked and rang the builder who gave me the name of the paint . It looks like a darkish stone grey (Solver Beaver). I love Dulux mocha magic and fudge but they tend to throw purple tones in some lights . I'm probably being overly fussy ... although the builder has given me an 'out' by giving me a choice of brands. Re: What paint brand? 19Mar 15, 2008 12:07 pm Sorry Dy…. I missed this response.
Actually I don’t have any colour brochures on Solver…..its the one paint company I hadn’t worried about, so I cant help you. Sorry. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What paint brand? 20Mar 18, 2008 12:06 am np
We've painted a couple of boards and found 4 nice stone grey colour tones from Solver for the external render. Beaver and Kanga - & Cray grey and Caribou. Just need to choose. Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5745 I am in a difficult situation. Long story short I have been handed over my brand new home in Sydney with everything in the house being great except the windows that were… 0 972 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7171 |
