Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Mar 14, 2012 10:14 am Hi, Im not requiring help with colour but more with the finishes that are currently being used. In my present house I have Taubmans Living Proof silk walls with full gloss doors, skirting boards and architraves, and a flat paint ceiling (1/4 strength of the wall colour - I dont like stark white ceilings). Is anyone using different finishes, or seen anything amazing, or have suggestions to add interest. Eagerly awaiting responses, thanks. NN Re: What is the latest trend in Paint Finishes? 2Mar 26, 2012 1:23 am It seems to me that the latest trends seem to be going two opposing ways. Matching the interior to the exterior setting (eg neutral & earth colours for country, water and sand colours near beach) or else standing out in complete contrast to the environment? But it would be worth asking a decorator; I'm no expert on trends!! For something different, check out limewash and distemper traditional finishes. Distemper has a deep velvety appearance, perfect for bedrooms or more formal dining rooms. Limewash produces a subtle, aged texture, traditionally it was an exterior paint. Re: What is the latest trend in Paint Finishes? 3Mar 26, 2012 11:23 am I was advised to: a)Paint the walls with a washable silk, paint the doors, architraves and skirts with a gloss the same colour. Did this but in different strengths and happy with result. b)Painted feature walls are out. Still did two in master bed and theatre. c)Wallpaper on feature walls is in. Not a fan and didn't do as the thought of a whole wall of paisley or damask would make me chunder. Have since seen some plainer designs that could tempt me. d)Murals across whole wall are in especially for kids rooms. Some of these look good but don't know how easy to change as kids grow or you get sick of it. e)Removable decals are in. Love these and intend to put some on walls I would like to have painted as feature walls. Good luck with your decision! Regards, Grumbles 3 47348 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7073 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5700 |
