Renovating a 20 yr old villa and what I have picked so far are: Whisper white for walls throughout Gyprock Jazz 3 step cornice Kitchen cupboards to the ceiling on gloss melamine Classic white Benchtop Laminex Freestyle Ivory Appliances are all stainless teel Floor is Spotted gum Carpet - thinking of some neutral as well like sand or greyish beige bathroom/toilet floor/wall tiles -white close to fair bianca Will be installing white blinds The question is what to use for the below. Ceiling + cornice (My painter suggests just simple white with a pinch of black) Skirting boards + architraves (double strength Whisper white, semi-gloss) Doors (double strength Whisper white, semi-gloss) Normally I have seen people tend to use whiter colour for doors than walls but I do not hate the idea of going darker on doors as well. Basically I am just trying to appeal the simplicity and the moderness. The house is ususally with sufficient natural light. Can anyone suggest any other ideas or agree/object the idea? Thanks in advance! Re: Advice on colours appreciated! 4Feb 16, 2008 3:00 pm mek Some people actually like white (as opposed to creams/off-whites). We've got White on White walls, architraves and doors with white aluminium blinds, and it feels right for me. I like white one of our friends has same as you plus all white kitchen, it looks really nice! Re: Advice on colours appreciated! 5Feb 16, 2008 5:31 pm I also like white .. you can add colour with pictures, objects and splashbacks.
Spotted gum is a very busy wood IMO (lots of variation) so going for a simple colour scheme is not a bad idea . Re: Advice on colours appreciated! 6Feb 16, 2008 5:45 pm I would go with -
Ceilings & Cornice - Whisper white, ceiling flat Skirting boards + architraves - Whisper white….FULL GLOSS This will appeal to the moderness you are after. Then add your touch’s of black. Not sure if you can do double strength Whisper white….not seen this done before. But I’m sure it is possible. Could look good!!! Good luck….all looks good to me!! I'm curious, what do they do to make whisper white double strength...I have never heard of this before. The colour is on my short list. Thanks Mrs B Re: Advice on colours appreciated! 11Feb 18, 2008 10:30 pm Mrs B…let’s say whisper white has a drop of back in it.
Then they would add 2 drops instead of the 1, to make it darker.
