Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Nov 15, 2011 11:23 am Help...We have a 70’s era oblong 3 story block of units near the beach. The nearby IGA was painted bright lilac and is an eyesore. Our bricks are apricot beige (med/light) and both sides are very visible from public spots and we want the old girl to look tasteful and cared for. The sunny side has glass doors and balconies with new dividers ( ironstone colourbond) and the south wall has pebblecrete walkways and small windows and 14 solid entry doors (currently pale pink). We are thinking surfmist on the eaves. What’s a good colour for the doors? Wattyl honey tree , wheat fields , beehive or sandbank ? Other ideas please. We blew our colour consultant money on a guy who seems to love Deep Garnet as his pet. Would this make us look like a bordello with 14 doors on one wall. Plus we must paint over the old doors and the many existing coats of baby pink yuk). Someone suggested blues, what about aqua infusion or quartsy blue? PLEASE ideas would be very appreciated Thansk guys Ros Re: HELP...Door /trim colours for 70's era boxy units 2Nov 16, 2011 7:54 am I think that the ironstone colourbond colour could also work well but you might have to lighten it a little not sure if that would be too dark. The wattyl honey tree might blend right in and be very neutral but its hard to tell if there would be too much 'yellow' tone in it from the photo of your apartments. The deep garnet could actually look quite fresh and updated. As for the blue- I do love blue this season and painted my interior a grey/blue however I just helped a friend who was updating a 1970's house. She used a colour similar to aqua infusion on the lower kitchen cabinets. It didn't work at all. In fact as we were deciding if it was "fashion forward" or really dated we walked into the bathroom and saw that the AWFUL formica bathroom bench tops were the exact same colour... turned out that in a 1970's house it just looked really dated... so i wonder if it would look like all the school doors I remember from my childhood rather than 'modern chic'. Addicted to home design and new colour trends. So many good options- but so few rooms! Re: HELP...Door /trim colours for 70's era boxy units 3Nov 17, 2011 9:36 pm Thanks for your thoughts, especially about the school doors.... I guess we just want a modern natural colour that is not too brown and isn't too yellow or green. Dark is probably out. Thanks for the warning about blue. Is there a nice blue that might wokr on a 70's building? 7 3013 920 was enough to get the furniture in. We live in a pretty safe area and it’s great to see people walking to the front door. We’re not too fussed about people… 4 1530 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8324 |
