Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Oct 18, 2011 7:56 pm Hi everyone
Hoping you can assist with advice on my proposed colour scheme for painting the render and trims on the house. I've attached a picture as it is at the moment. The render is a yucky beige, the trims around the windows are a peeling white and the gutters are faded and old manor red. http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz28/shelouski/House/house.jpg We thought we'd go with the following and would like your thoughts: Render: Taubmans Georgian Silver Eaves: Dulux White On White (matt) Windows and balcony door: Dulux White On White (semi gloss) Front step, planter box and screen: Monument (colorbond gutter colour-match) to match new gutters. We are getting the gutters replaced in Monument prior to painting. We want to keep the front door blue and door trim, white. We are not painting any of the exposed brickwork. You can see the test stripes on the front wall. The middle stripe is Georgian Silver. I'm worried it's too blue? We're after a pure silvery grey but the other test greys on either side are too light. We want a really crisp, cold white to contrast against the grey. Hence White on White. Views appreciated, including any suggestions instead of Georgian Silver (perhaps Dulux Tin Cat??). Thanks Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 2Oct 18, 2011 8:03 pm I have seen Lundy Grey as a render colour and it looks great. Maybe you can get a sample of that if you're not completely sold on the others. Can I make a suggestion?? With the eaves can I suggest gloss rather than matt white? The gloss cleans up so much easier and is a bit harder for spiders and the like to take hold. Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 3Oct 18, 2011 8:20 pm That's a great suggestion on the gloss, thanks. I'll take any tips i can as this is the first painting experience i've had! Love your plans for your home, by the way. I've just had a peek at your thread Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 4Oct 18, 2011 8:36 pm Thanks, we are happy with the plan, we customised it a bit to suit. We are grey and white too! Lundy Grey If you use the search function on the forum you should get some results with this colour as render. It looks much lighter as an external colour. I googled it and most of the images that come up are homeone members! HTH, Jess Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 5Oct 18, 2011 9:11 pm We used Lundy Grey on our place (150%) and its looks a lot different to what we thought it would - but we still like it! Not sure if its going to be the colour you are looking for tho? Here is a pic when we painted it Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 6Oct 18, 2011 9:25 pm Hi Zarli Your house is lovely, you must be pleased Not sure Lundy grey would work for us as it looks quite earthy in all the pics I've seen. I'm looking for a darkish silvery grey - a bit like a seagull's plumage, if you know what i mean. I've heard it referred to as a Cape Cod or Hamptons colour scheme. Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 7Oct 18, 2011 9:36 pm Yep i agree - its almost got a brown/mocha type colour to it, it may be because ours is 150% not sure. There was another colour we were tossing up between before we repainted our render but I cant for the life of me remeber what it was called. We had a really hard time finding a colour we liked, it is so different on the sample as it is IRL. Maybe try PM Michelle on here, she will have a solution or a suggestion for you to look at The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 9Oct 18, 2011 11:07 pm Dulux Silkwort? Did you like Josh & Jenna's exterior on the block - it was Wattyl Texas Stone - it may be too light though. http://homes.ninemsn.com.au/theblock/ro ... a-exterior Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 10Nov 02, 2011 6:37 am Hi everyone who helped out An update. In the end we went with Dulux Stepney on the render, Dulux White On White for the eaves and windows and today the front step and balcony planter box will be painted Monument to match the gutters. So not completely finished just yet but a good start. We're pleased we went with Stepney rather than a lighter grey because Stepney isn't nearly as dark as we thought it would be. http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz28/shelouski/House/day21.jpg http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz28/shelouski/House/day2.jpg Re: Grey and White Exterior Colour Scheme 12Nov 03, 2011 2:59 pm We had the front door painted Azure by Nippon last year so we're really keen to stick with that. That said, I really, really want to paint it pillar box red. And I reckon it would go with the white and grey..
