Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Sep 20, 2011 11:34 pm Two weeks ago we rushed to get paint & skirting done on 4 rooms before the carpet was due to be laid. I managed to get 2 coats of Dulux Otto's Boy onto the home theatre walls but only one coat onto the ceiling before running out of time & paint. Last night I went back to do the second coat on the ceiling, all good but I noticed some scuff marks on the walls from the carpet guy. I used the flat finish to cut down on reflections from the projector but it seems to scuff very easily. Anyway, I decided to try and touch up the marks with the roller, almost like a dry brush, hardly any paint. Today I've gone back after it's dried and it just looks worse, really noticeable! Obviously this was a stupid idea, let's call it a rookie mistake. Is there anything I can do at this point short of applying a fresh third coat? =[ Re: Argh! Did I just ruin my freshly painted theatre wall? 2Sep 21, 2011 6:37 am First…..one coat on the ceiling? That’s where you should have had to coats first. Because you used a flat paint you may always get unmovable scuff marks. And unfortunately when laying carpet scuffs do happen. To me, the only thing I see you can do is repaint the walls in a low sheen paint, one that can be cleaned. Also the darker the paint, the more the scuffs can be seen. PS……if painting walls and ceiling, use a drop sheet! Never assume you will not spill paint. Did I just ruin my freshly painted theatre wall? 3Sep 21, 2011 1:33 pm I have to agree with Michelle, the only way you will get a nice finish without the marks would be to repaint with a low sheen paint. I know its a pain to have to do it all again but it will be worth it when its done Re: Argh! Did I just ruin my freshly painted theatre wall? 4Oct 01, 2011 1:44 pm With touch ups you will probably find that if done properly the touchup will be less noticeable after a week or two. I just had a touch up done in a display home I designed and although it looked quite shiny and noticeable within a week or two it seemed to have faded and wasn't noticeable. I do agree with the others that a low sheen paint is much more washable, although I see your point about the projector. Not sure how you tried to remove the marks but if anyone is looks to get black marks off walls there is a sponge like product in the supermarkets that works brilliantly. It usually looks like a very dense sponge with one side white and the other side blue. Can't remember a brand name sorry! It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11568 Thank you again Simeon..
